Meet Maya Brown! She is a deck cadet from New Zealand who recently joined the Siem Amethyst to further on her career at sea. Maya is in the final stages of completing her under study and will soon achieve her 2nd Officers license. During her time on board, she begun her introduction to the offshore industry by actively participating in the day-to-day vessel operations, vessel maneuvering, DP cargo operations, winch driving, anchor handling deck operations and daily routine 2nd officer’s duties. Having spent most of her cadetship on cruise ships, Maya has successfully transitioned into the offshore industry and thoroughly enjoys her time on board the Siem Amethyst. – Moving into the offshore industry has brought new challenges and invaluable learning opportunities. I have to say, my time onboard the Siem Amethyst has been the most fulfilling and rewarding cadetship yet. I feel privileged to have been a part of a team who fostered such a positive learning environment and who all took an interest in my training. I was actively encouraged to contribute to various operations and be involved in many hands-on jobs. The support I have received during my contract with Sea1 Offshore has allowed me to develop the skills required of a qualified officer and prepare me for the next step in my career, Maya says. Last week, we were awarded the prestigious "Maritime Education Company of the Year" in Norway for our efforts in training young seafarers throughout 2023. 🏆 One of the highlights mentioned was our collaboration with STIFTELSEN CHRISTIAN RADICH's Windjammer education programme. This programme plays a crucial role in transforming young individuals from outsiders into seafarers. We are proud and excited to announce that Sea1 Offshore has been awarded the prestigious ‘Maritime Education Company of the Year’ in Norway, for our efforts in training young seafarers throughout 2023! During a ceremony aboard the training ship Christian Radich on Wednesday, 12 June, our Chief Operations Officer, Tore Lillestø, proudly accepted the award from Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Marianne Sivertsen Næss. “For many years, we have worked purposefully to contribute to the recruitment and training of Norwegian seafarers. This award shows that we have done a lot right,” says Lillestø. The award comes from Norwegian Maritime Competence Foundation, which consists of representatives from the entire maritime industry in Norway. Line Heimstad, the foundation's chairperson, justified the award, stating: "We are impressed by Sea1 Offshore's investment in apprentices and sailors, and how the company contributes to uplifting the sailor profession. We particularly highlight the shipping company's collaboration with Christian Radich's Windjammer programme, which is an important contribution to guiding young people from being outsiders to becoming seafarers." On June 1st, VPS’ Maress Decarb Summer Campaign kicked off, and we are participating with 16 of our vessels, all with Høglund FO-monitoring system installed. 🛳️ The competition runs until August 31st, during which our vessels will compete against 266 other vessels and 11 other companies on how to best reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Last year's campaign saw participants collectively save around 10,000 tons of CO2! Siem Offshore is now Sea1 Offshore! “A more unified ownership structure will help to set a clearer course for the company”, says Bernt Omdal, CEO of Sea1 Offshore. The company held a general meeting on Tuesday 7 May, where the decision to change its name from Siem Offshore to Sea1 Offshore was formally made. The name change is a natural consequence of Kristian Siem's withdrawal and leaving the helm to the other owners. A new company logo is now in place. Omdal assures that both crew, expertise and reputation will be transferred to the new company, even if nine of the company's vessels are taken over by Kristian Siem as part of the transaction. “Business as usual! We continue to operate all the vessels in our fleet, including the nine that are now owned by Siem. But we have changed the name and are replacing the logos at our offices in Brazil, Australia and Canada, and at the head office in Kristiansand”, says Omdal. Through almost 20 years of operation, Siem Offshore has built itself up from being an underdog to becoming a leading global offshore shipping company, against which competitors measure themselves. This position will remain intact after the name change. Omdal believes in further growth, both in the segment and for the company. "We are witnessing the start of a new upswing.
