Are there intersections between decarbonisation, crewing strategies and seafarer welfare that can be leveraged to benefit the maritime industry? As OTG's Director of Direct to Consumer Services Catherine Logie says, “With so much set to change as the maritime industry decarbonises over the next few decades, it’s important that we interrogate these developments and look for opportunities to improve the lives of seafarers, ensure adequate training strategies are in place, and make maritime careers accessible to a wider and more diverse range of people.” Join her online on Monday, September 11, from 3.00 - 4.00 pm as she moderates a panel discussion on this topic for the Seafarers Hospital Society with experts: ⭐ Helio E S G Vicente Vicente ⭐ Captain Pradeep Chawla ⭐ Captain Jaquelyn Burton, EMBA, AFNI ⭐ Yrhen Bernard Sabanal Balinis MRIN, MNI, AMIMarEST ⭐ Sandra Welch Register now for 'Decarbonisation: Sustainability & Crewing en route to 2050' at London International Shipping Week 2023 at https://lnkd.in/e5WDArUM #Decarbonisation #JustTransition #CrewWelfare #NetZero #LISW23

We would like to extend our thanks to Browne Jacobson for hosting our Maritime Mixer on their stunning rooftop terrace at London International Shipping Week 2023. We look forward to meeting old friends and making new ones — all while listening to the wonderful Mario Castronari's jazz trio. Mario and his bandmates have been a mainstay of Videotel Christmas parties for over 20 years, and we are proud to continue this tradition on September 12 as we mingle and share stories of shipping's progress. We look forward to seeing you there! #LISW23 #networking

What key factors are impacting the development of sustainability mindsets in the maritime industry? The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) recently revised GHG strategy has ambitious goals for our industry to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 – which will fall well within the career span of seafarers working in and being recruited into shipping today. In order for our emission reduction initiatives to be successful, a true cultural change is required. Buy-in is necessary at all levels, from cadets to masters, and mentors, managers, and leaders, both onboard and ashore. 📢 Meeting our goals While 2050 may seem a long way off, we have interim targets for emissions reduction that our industry needs to meet to achieve global sustainability. These include a 20% reduction in emissions by 2030 and a 70% reduction by 2040. Proactive action is necessary, and we are already communicating and collaborating across our industry to establish the networks we need to deliver on our decarbonisation commitments. 📢 Understanding our commitments Maritime’s resilience is a key factor contributing to global safety and security. Sustainability extends beyond decarbonisation, so it is important that we demonstrate the links between shipping's support of safe and effective global supply chains and the benefits of this to the people powering our industry. Ensuring that we establish and communicate our values effectively to personnel, collaborators, stakeholders, and consumers — including the importance of sustainability — will help us advance and build a more holistic, resilient, and decarbonised industry. 📢 We are proud to have been nominated by SAFETY4SEA for our support of maritime knowledge and training on sustainability.
