Welcoming new EU law on intraday orders    The obligation on NEMOs to share their intraday orders up to delivery in key European markets takes effect today, Tuesday 16 July.    At Nord Pool we welcome the new EU law establishing the extended shared order book, making it possible for all European power exchanges to offer customers the same liquidity from the beginning to the end of intraday trading, in all bidding zones.     Power exchanges and Transmission System Operators have worked together to ensure SIDC systems are ready to accommodate the extended order book.    Tom Darell, CEO at Nord Pool, said: “Our customers are excited about this long-anticipated extension of the shared order book into the final hour of intraday trading, finally becoming a reality. Having joined forces to launch Iceland’s first short-term physical electricity trading market, we recently had the pleasure of hosting Elma orkuviðskipti (Elma), the Icelandic power exchange.  Katrin Olga Johannesdottir (CEO), Herdis Hallmarsdottir (Senior Legal Counsel) and Ástgeir Ólafsson (Specialist) were warmly welcomed by Nord Pool’s CEO, Tom Darell and Senior Consultant Martin Festøy. “We look forward to supporting Elma in setting up the first power market in Iceland. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗜𝗗𝗔𝘀 After more than a week of trading on the new Intraday Auctions (IDAs) - part of the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC) - Nord Pool has been pleased to see many trades being made by its members. Most of Nord Pool’s intraday trading members were well prepared prior to launch, in order to take full advantage of the IDAs. These are implicit auctions, with orders matched and cross-zonal capacity allocated simultaneously across different bidding zones, allowing clearing prices to be determined for each. The IDAs take place at 15:00, 22:00 and 10:00 CET, each day. Yesterday, Pietro Grigorio Rabassi, Nord Pool's Executive Vice President - Central and Western Europe, gave a presentation at Prospero Events Group 12th Annual Electricity Price Forecasting & Advanced Modelling Conference 2024, in Amsterdam. Pietro shared his insights on current developments, while also giving his views on the challenges faced in the energy sector. Key take-aways from Pietro's presentation: ✅ Energy transition goals mean [intermittent] renewables will constitute more-and-more of the production mix across Europe ✅ This comes with significant challenges, such as an increase in the frequency of negative prices ✅ European electricity market design facilitates the energy transition - even more so once the European Electricity Market Design reform, with its related legislative measures, enters into force in a few weeks' time. #NordPool #PowerMarket #EnergyTrading #EnergyTransition #Renewables
