Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time, with 2023 the warmest year on record globally. The food system not only contributes significantly to global GHG emissions, but it is also extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. At Nomad Foods, we know it is critical that we play our part and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain, and we recognise the need to act fast. We have set ambitious emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and we are also members of the UN's Race to Zero campaign, committing to achieve net zero carbon emissions well before 2050.  In 2023, we reduced our absolute emissions by 34.9% from our 2019 baseline, meaning we have exceeded our SBTi target to reduce our absolute emissions by 25% by 2025. We have also reduced our emissions intensity by 28.6% from our 2019 baseline, with a 6.3% reduction in 2023 compared to 2022. To find out more about all the work we are doing to reduce our emissions, please see our 2023 Sustainability Report here: https://lnkd.in/efKTgMEx #NomadFoods #Sustainability #GHG #RaceToZero #NetZero #ParisClimateAgreement #ClimateChange

The summer months are always an exciting time for us here at Nomad Foods as harvests take place across our European markets. Recently, Antje Schubert, our Executive President Adriatics, DACH and Nordics, joined iglo Deutschland on a visit to our crop fields in Reken, Germany, to find out more about how our dedicated agricultural teams make our harvests a great success. At Nomad Foods, we’re committed to sustainable agriculture practices so that we protect the food chain for generations to come. Last year, 92.3% of our vegetables, potatoes, fruit and herbs were sourced through sustainable sourcing practices, meaning we are on track to meet our 100% target by the end of 2025. To read more about Antje’s visit, please see below. #FieldToFork #Sustainability #Harvest

With love, caring for their soil, growing vegetable for the plates of the nation! Have you ever been welcomed by your colleagues with hand-knitted socks & Gummite? Tuesday morning, 7am, the sun is still shining. I was going to spend some time with my agriculture colleagues out in the fields in Reken. This is the home of iglo spinach, herbs & cabbage. (For those who don’t know, it’s placed in the midst of nowhere, close to Munster & the NL) Rita & Andreas, our agriculture advisers are waiting for me. With boots & hand knitted socks in their hand 😊 I love it. They have been into their job for more than 10 years. It’s a while we had not seen: Last time we were on the field was by bicycle. “Not a good idea for today. See the clouds, it’s gonna be wet.”   Today we don’t go to the big spinach fields. Today we focus on herbs. It is just amazing. You are sitting in the midst of Pimpinella, Coriander, Borsch, Sorrel, inhaling the intensive smell of fresh Basil. We are touching, smelling and eating the herbs – fresh on the field. Soon they will be harvested – within 2 hours packed in frozen… My imagination is going wild. Fresh salat of Sorrel with cheese and fruit, balsamic sauce. We talk about the successes and challenges of the season. What happens if the rain is too much or too little, what if the Coriander is blooming (as consumers don't like white flowers). So many „what ifs“ … #climatechange #fieldtofork#biodiversity#loveforfood Achim trudges through the rain. Achim has been a contractual vegetable farmer for more than 30 years – with heart and soul. He mainly takes care of the vegetables (and the terrible administration – as he complains to me). His wife Petra had to spend the night in the stable. She takes care of the 80 cows and with Achim on her side of in total around 2,000 pigs. Tonight, a calf was born. It wasn't that easy. Didn't want to drink. Now she makes sure that everything works out. Then she comes around the corner. She doesn't look at all like she's been awake throughout the night. It's pouring. We are soaking wet. Josefine, one of their 4 children, comes along, she has prepared something. We sit down in the porch & enjoy a gigantic breakfast!! And then we start listening to each other . . . inspiring and so important these days! My key takeaways from this amazing morning: 💫 It’s an energy boost spending time with team & business partners 💡 It’s a creative boost being out there, listening in, sharing experience on the ground (or green), co-creating new ideas 🌿 Food appreciation is low, compared to our European neighbors the lowest in Germany, where consumers pay more for anything else. So there is general low acknowledging of the hard work of people working in agriculture, like Petra and Achim. BIG chapeau on you!! 💚 I’m impressed and feel alike: #Love what you do and do it with passion! What is it you care for with #love that gets you up before 6 am - regardless the weather condition? We’re delighted to share the news that Nomad Foods has been shortlisted for the The Food and Drink Federation Net Zero Initiative Award 2024. The entry focuses on our industry-leading study, which suggests that storing frozen food at -15°C, instead of the industry standard -18°C, can reduce freezer energy consumption by 10-11%, without any noticeable impact on the safety, texture, taste or nutritional value of a product. We’re now looking forward to the awards ceremony due to take place later this year and celebrating with the other shortlisted companies. #NetZero #MovetoMinus15 #Carbon #Awards #FDFAwards #FrozenFood

We help families eat a more balanced diet and as part of this we implement strict standards on additives and preservatives. At the end of 2023, 99.4% of Nomad Foods' portfolio was without flavour enhancers, artificial flavours and artificial colourants, up from 99% in 2022. We are particularly proud of the efforts of our new acquisitions to carry out recipe improvements to remove artificial ingredients, which contributed to this progress. We also renovated our La Cocinera 'Lasanas y Canelones' range in 2023, removing artificial ingredients, as well as reducing the salt and saturated fat content. We are working hard to remove all flavour enhancers, artificial flavours and artificial colourants from our portfolio by the end of 2024. To read more about efforts on additives, please see our 2023 Sustainability Report here: https://lnkd.in/efKTgMEx #NomadFoods #Sustainability #Additives #Health #Nutrition

For Pride Month 2024, Nomad Foods hosted a special panel discussion as part of our ongoing commitment to Inclusion & Diversity. Hosted by our Chief People Officer, Harriet Hounsell and in partnership with Karan Kapoor from Diversity & Inclusion consultancy, Vividh, we welcomed Helen Smith from HSBC, Deb Caldow (Ralls) from Diageo and Carly Arnold, our Portfolio Director at Nomad Foods, to discuss the topic of “supporting each other”. The discussion involved how we as an industry can play a more active role in fostering a safe and supportive environment, whilst also exploring any barriers we still face and reminding us why it’s important that we all advocate for I&D every day. It was a thoroughly engaging session from the audience and continues to support our commitment to I&D at Nomad Foods. #Pride #Inclusion #Diversity

Today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve signed up to the The Move to -15°C coalition and announced the 18-month results of our industry leading study, with Campden BRI, exploring if frozen food storage temperatures can be increased. The results build upon our previously announced 12-month results and add further weight to the suggestion that storing frozen food at -15°C, instead of the industry standard -18°C, can reduce freezer energy consumption by 10-11%, without any noticeable impact on the safety, texture, taste or nutritional value of a product. We’re also the first food manufacturer to sign up to Move to -15°C, an industry coalition launched at COP28 and dedicated to cutting carbon emissions in the frozen food supply chain. Agriculture is a significant contributor to climate change and is also extremely vulnerable to its impacts. That’s why it’s essential that food business like ours mitigate the negative impacts of agriculture and find new, more sustainable approaches. At Nomad Foods, we are committed to encouraging the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices so that we protect the food chain for generations to come. In 2023, 92.3% of our vegetables, potatoes, fruit, and herbs were sourced through sustainable farming practices, meaning we are on track to meet our 100% target by the end of 2025. We actively help our farmers and suppliers grow more sustainably and in 2023, we were excited to launch a pilot project with our partner, PRé Sustainability, to map the carbon emissions of 30 of our direct vegetable growers. By collecting farm-level, crop-specific emissions data, we will be able to identify where to focus our efforts across the supply chain in the future. To find out more about our efforts to farm sustainably, and our specific initiatives to support biodiversity and carbon reduction, see our 2023 Sustainability Report here: https://lnkd.in/efKTgMEx #Sustainability #Farming #Agriculture

Today is World Oceans Day. With its important focus on collective action for the oceans, Nomad Foods recognises the crucial role our partnerships play in helping us meet our goals for sustainable fish and seafood. Working with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for over 25 years, we have led the way in protecting wild fish stocks for future generations. We are the largest branded producer of MSC-certified and labelled fish and seafood globally and remain on track to source 100% of our fish and seafood from sustainable fishing or responsible farming by 2025. In 2023, 99.5% of our sourced fish and seafood volume was MSC or Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified - up from 98.9% in 2022.
