A record high number of over 2000 students applied for summer jobs at KONGSBERG this summer. At Kongsberg Discovery, we have a team of students working on a special project that they will present in August. Additionally, Tina Harildstad is spending her summer vacation developing parts of a system used to study ocean currents, and Helene Jalving is taking time off from studying to design a troubleshooting system for sonars that detect fish. Our students are an important contribution to our team, and we hope all students at KONGSBERG continue to have a great summer! #Discoveringthesecretsoftheocean #Protectingpeopleandplanet

It’s not what we see, but what we don’t that matters. Critical infrastructure includes the vast network of highways, connecting bridges and tunnels, railways, utilities and buildings necessary to maintain normalcy in daily life. Transportation, commerce, clean water, and electricity rely on these vital systems. Threats to that infrastructure are increasingly common and becoming more and more sophisticated. Protecting our infrastructure requires cross-border collaboration and a system that can surveil a huge area, correctly identify threats and have clear guidelines for threat response. We must be a step ahead by leveraging technology and creating a robust system, cross-sector and coordinated. KONGSBERG is uniquely placed to deliver integrated technologies that protect every aspect of critical infrastructure at sea. Our systems occupy space, air, sea, and seabed for complete surveillance and protection. We work with governmental, defence, and private sectors to build joined-up solutions that operate across assets and borders. We evolve with new technology and the assets that we protect, to stay ahead of the threat. #ProtectingPeopleandPlanet Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace Kongsberg Discovery #Protectingcriticalinfrastructure 🎥https://lnkd.in/daaM_Wdy

Thanks for visiting us! Kongsberg Discovery in Horten hosted a group of midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy. They got to see the production facilities, learn more about the technology and different capabilities that KONGSBERG have developed over the years. Assistant Professor Matthew Smart at the Department of Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences in the U.S. Naval Academy was fascinated and showed a special interest in the Jotun Hullskater production at Bankløkka where Kjell Gjestad guided them around the facility. He was also very impressed by the advanced capacity that the HUGIN team offers. “As a former mine countermeasures officer, I really appreciated Magnus Lunde presentation and I'm amazed at the improvements in that sector since I last served on a minehunter”, he says. The Midshipmen visited Massterly, the production facilities at Strandpromendaden and had a boat trip with Simrad Echo where they could see the technology in action. They also met Hayden Callow who used to work as a maritime operator. “We had a great time and are thankful for your hospitality”, Smart says. The academy was established as a Naval School on Oct. 10, 1845. Candidates must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 17 and 22 and are unmarried. The USNA's mission is to train midshipmen ethically, mentally, and physically to be professional officers in the Naval Service. The Academy is a highly selective, prestigious four-year university that accepts less than 10% of those who apply. The trip in Norway continues, and the next is Oslo, Bergen, then Bodø before Svalbard. #Midshipmen #Discoveringthesecretsoftheocean #navalacadamy #students

🤝The reopening of the Bergseminar marks the start of an exciting collaboration between KONGSBERG and the Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge. 💡The Kongsberg School of Mines, founded in 1757 by royal resolution of Frederick V, stands as one of Europe's earliest educational institutions for higher education in mining engineering. The Kongsberg School of Mines-main building, called Bergseminaret holds the distinction of being the birthplace of higher technical education in Norway. 🚀 We look forward to filling this historic building with new life, knowledge, and innovation. #KongsbergAgenda #Discoveringthesecretsoftheocean #Collaboration

📣 The TOP WINNER🏅 of our 2023 image competition is this impressive image submitted by Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute in Belfast, Ireland! This image, showcases the SS Tiberia, a WWI shipwreck which was torpedoed by German submarine U-19 in February 1918. The incident occurred 1.5 miles east of Blackhead at the mouth of Belfast Lough during the ship's voyage from Glasgow to New York carrying general cargo. Remarkably, all crew members survived the attack, thanks to the ship’s lifeboats and rapid assistance from shore, as there were numerous witnesses on land (Irish Wrecks Online 2020). The winning image reveals that the wreck of the SS Tiberia remains well-preserved, resting upright on the seabed. Some of the smaller structures are still visible, providing valuable data for continued monitoring and future management of the site. This image is the latest in a time series, underscoring the importance of ongoing efforts to preserve our maritime heritage. #EM2040 #MBES #KDImageContest #MaritimeHeritage #SSTiberia #UnderwaterExploration #ShipwreckPreservation
