𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙀𝘾𝘾𝙎𝙀𝙇 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙨 How to fit a novel Wet oxy-Combustion Chamber (WCC) to the gas turbine of a negative CO2 power plant fed with sewage sludge? This was the aim for researcher Kamil Stasiak from Gdańsk University of Technology recent visit to ECCSEL SINTEF Energy Research energy oxy-fuel-ready and fully instrumented combustion test bench HIPROX. Practical objectives for the research were to validate innovative evaporation cooling combustor (porous WHIPOX walls), in addition to first time testing of an innovative water assisted oxy-fuel burner. Highlighted challenges (ignition and water injection) are lessons learned for de-risking and designing the larger combustor for prototype. Now, the next directions for development have been defined. The European CCUS Research Infrastructure enables state-of-the-art research in CCUS and is co-funded by Horizon 2020
Om oss
ECCSEL is the European Research Infrastructure (ERIC) for Carbon Capture, Transport, Utilisation and Storage, co-funded by the European Commission within the Research Infrastructure (RI) program of Horizon 2020. With five member countries ECCSEL is working to expand our infrastructure. Our mission is to give researchers and industry access to world-class facilities to help enable low to zero CO2 emissions from industry and power generation to combat climate change. To that end, we offer services within transnational access calls, commissioned research and data management. Members: France, Netherlands, Italy, United Kingdom and Norway.

🌍 Driving Europe’s Industrial Carbon Management 🌍 In a recent EERA CCS webinar, Klaus Tobias Mosbacher and Volker Röhling from ECCSEL ERIC shared how the world’s largest CCUS research infrastructure is expanding to support Europe’s net-zero goals. With cutting-edge Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) and Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) technologies, ECCSEL contributes significantly to the EU's Industrial Carbon Management Strategy. Collaboration and innovation will be key to achieving 450 million tonnes of CO2 storage by 2050. 👇🏼 Read more about ECCSEL’s role in shaping Europe’s sustainable future. #EERACCS #CCUS #CarbonCapture #NetZero2050 #Decarbonization #SustainableEnergy EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance European Commission European Union Zero Emissions Platform

Italy at its best 🤩 ECCSEL OGS Panarea is a natural laboratory where thermo-magnetic #CO2 is leaking at substantial rates from the seafloor at water depths ranging from 5 - 30 m. 🌊This natural laboratory provides the opportunity to study gas migration in different structural and geological settings. It can be used to study the ascent of CO2 through sedimentary strata, to decipher the dynamics of gas bubble and droplet plumes, to understand the impact of CO2 on benthic organisms and marine ecosystems, and to test and improve CO2 monitoring techniques. 💦The infrastructure is organised in two floors and include wet and dry laboratories equipped with scientific instrumentations for multidisciplinary studies in the field of physical, chemical, biological and geological sciences. 🤿If this is relevant for you, read more and apply for access to perform your research: https://lnkd.in/dEYZCMrE #CCUS #researchinfrastructures Cinzia De Vittor Valentina Volpi Alessandro Laudicella Giuseppe Bonura
The maturity of #CCUS as a driver of innovation and progress. This was the theme of the workshop held in September 18th in the beautiful Aeolian location of #Panarea as part of the PNRR #ECCSELLENT project, funded by MUR NextGeneration EU, M4C2-I3.1. It was a great privilege to attend the event as the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche project leader with a topic contribution in front of members of the ECCSEL ERIC board, local representatives, colleagues from Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia and young students. Truly stimulating also the open discussion on the most innovative approaches on the road to decarbonization and the challenges still to be faced to complete the energy transition. The warmest congratulations to Cinzia De Vittor, Valentina Volpi and Alessandro Laudicella from OGS for organizing such an extraordinary event immersed in the air, colors and flavors of an enchanting landscape.

𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙀𝘾𝘾𝙎𝙀𝙇 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙨 Researchers from Nanyang Technological University Singapore with Elena Messinese Federico Lauro and OGS Valentina Esposito Cinzia De Vittor Marco Graziano are conducting campaigns involving exposing differently treated metal coupons, in shallow and deep water to investigate corrosion by the marine microbial community in the NatLab facility. The final campaign will take place in October and includes the recovery of the deposited landers and the subsequent final analyses in the laboratory. Nanyang Technological University Singapore has chosen to carry out its experiments in the water surrounding the island of Panarea due to the chemical-physical characteristics of the marine environment, such as natural CO2 emissions and the presence of sea canyons with a bathymetry of 3000 meters just a few miles from the coast, to study the effects of environmental disturbances on the shallow and deep-sea microbial communities and the resulting impact on marine biogeochemistry. The island of Panarea was chosen because of OGS skills and the disponibility of our facility ECCSEL NatLab-Italy of Panarea with a range of modern and state-of-the-art instruments to support the campaigns carried out. The research aims to provide valuable information on the effectiveness of traditional and new corrosion protection measures. In parallel, it will provide insights into the effects of the introduction of treated and untreated metals into marine microbial communities.
