💧❕Low-carbon hydrogen will have a key role to play in decarbonising certain sectors.    Bellona Europa submitted feedback to the European Commission on their proposal for a draft delegated act specifying a methodology for assessing greenhouse gas emissions savings from low-carbon fuels.    Highlights from our response:     🔹RFNBOs must be prioritised however renewable electricity will be a limited resource and therefore low-carbon hydrogen will have a role to play in #decarbonisation of certain sectors.   🔹 Criteria for this low-carbon hydrogen must be strict, clear and avoid greenwashing!     🔹 The details of this delegated act must be tackled properly if we are to meet the 70% threshold for emissions reductions set out in this Delegated Act.    Read it here:  https://lnkd.in/ddYnNHva   #renewableenergy #renewables #netzero #energysystems #climateaction

The European Commission has announced 85 projects that will receive a total of €4.8 billion through the Innovation Fund, financed with revenues from emissions trading. This is the largest amount since the start of the Innovation Fund in 2020 ➡️ key step towards accelerating industrial #decarbonisation! 💶 5 CO2 storage projects have been selected, receiving grants up to €225 million. The projects include Europe's first onshore storage site in Hungary as well as a full value chain #CCS project in Denmark. According to the Commission, the storage sites are expected to deliver a total share of 13% towards the EU's 2030 target of 50 Mt CO2 injection. 🏭10 of the selected projects will include carbon capture and are set to receive support up to €220 million. We welcome the Commission’s decision to select sectors that are particularly hard to decarbonise without the technology, such as cement, biomass, chemicals, and waste incineration. ❓However, some of the choices prompt questions about their net #climate impact & whether they represent the best use of available funds, such as projects related to hydrogen and e-fuel use in road transport. Available data on the projects is limited. Enhanced transparency regarding the climate impact and energy balance of the projects is needed to evaluate whether funds are being allocated in the most effective way.
