We'd like to warmly welcome Riccardo Levato as a new member of the Young Academy of Europe. He works as associate professor of translational bioengineering and biomaterials at the Department of Clinical Sciences (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University), and at the Department of Orthopaedics of the University Medical Center Utrecht, in the Netherlands. Een oplossing bedenken voor de zeldzame hartziekte SCAD. En daarna je idee daadwerkelijk uitvoeren om vrouwen met deze ziekte te helpen... Dat mochten studenten doen in de Vrouwenhart Challenge. Tot hun beschikking stond het gloednieuwe ‘Studenten Research Hub netwerk’ in het UMC Utrecht en de Utrecht University. De Hubs in dit netwerk zijn fysieke innovatieplaatsen met specifieke onderzoekexpertise. Hier kunnen studenten laagdrempelig multi- en interdisciplinair onderzoek doen vanuit verschillende perspectieven. De uitkomsten van het onderzoek zijn veelbelovend. Zo ontdekten de studenten een potentiële nieuwe biomarker voor de hartziekte SCAD en een manier om deze biomarker op de vaatwand zichtbaar te maken. Heel gaaf om gisteren bij Omroep WNL op NPO Radio 1 te mogen vertellen hoe we in het UMC Utrecht AI toepassen bij het opsporen van lymfeklier uitzaaiingen bij borstkanker. In Stand van Nederland: Generatie AI ging het over AI in het ziekenhuis, de logistiek, muziek, luchtvaart, en het onderwijs.
