It's wonderful to see real-world evidence that small changes can make a big difference. It’s European Mental Health Awareness Week and a fitting time to share the inspiring results of the ASICS Movement for Mind programme study with you.
ASICS Movement for Mind is a free, 8-week audio programme designed to improve desk workers' mental wellbeing through movement. It consists of two 30-minute walking or running sessions each week, complemented by techniques to foster a connection with the body and the mind. It was designed in collaboration with experts Dominique ANTIGLIO, Dr Danny Penman, Dr Claire Renfrew, Gray Caws, Ian Banyard, Roos Tji and Greg Lovell. After a successful trial, it was made accessible for all to enjoy and again formed part of a study to prove its impact.
World-leading movement and mental health researcher Professor Dr Brendon Stubbs, who led the research trial and the real-world study, said: “Our 2021 randomised control trial involved almost 200 people and proved that the ASICS Movement for Mind programme positively impacted mental wellbeing. To establish definitively if the programme would deliver the same benefit in the real world, it was necessary to undertake a real-world evaluation of the programme. We did this by inviting thousands of people to participate and tracking their wellbeing changes. I’m pleased to say that we have continued to observe improved mental wellbeing results due to the twice-weekly programme sessions. This is an important step in understanding the link between movement and mental wellbeing. We can confidently re-assert that even small amounts of exercise can help people feel better.”
