Being honest, this feels strange for me. I still hold my breath a little when posting on LinkedIn. Sharing my 'advice' when I still feel like I have lots to learn as a leader, an agency manager, a wife, a mother.. but yet, here I am sharing my knowledge. It still doesn't feel natural, but I need to practise what I preach. So here goes. A lesson I have learnt over the years is the importance of sharing the story behind the 'product'. We have had so many clients eager to share big new launches, product developments, or new brand services. But it was the story of how they created it all that made us love them, want to work with them. For some reason, many shy away from this ‘how we got here’ story as they feel it's not exciting enough, or they have had too many failed launches. Most times, they are just too in the detail to realise just how amazing their story truly is. Think about it, honesty is appealing - failures or successes - people can relate to life challenges and love to follow founder journeys. We want to support brands who have shared their stories - whether than be the founders, the product development etc. We are a nosey nation! Some of the most successful brands in the world are those who have shared their honest stories: Nike  Tony's Chocolonely Bumble Inc. One of the most watched shows around the world  is Dragon's Den. It is literally a platform for people to share their product story. A brutal grilling of their failures and their successes, with the hope of getting an investor. By the end of the episode, most candidates don’t get an investor, but will have still benefited from the broadcast platform where they exposed their true selves. So if you want to grow an audience, get on Dragon's Den….. Well, no, not exactly, as we all know how wrong it can go (!), but there are other ways to get your story out there. You can start small and find your level of comfort, for example: 📖 Share your story with your peers in trade media  🗣 Sharing your story in profiling features with top tier titles  🤝 Integrate your background story in your product development, packaging, website etc. Or, you can be like me, and share what you’ve learnt - good and bad - on a platform read by friends, clients, friends of friends, work connections, and strangers you have not met yet. Yes, it can be awkward, unnatural - many people here have been my friends for years. They don’t need to hear my ‘PR tips’. But this is for those who don’t know me. Who have yet to meet the Brazil team, but hopefully can get a feel for what we are trying to achieve and how we like to work with our clients. LinkedIn can be a powerful place - I have fallen in love with brands by just following their founders profiles. So, maybe give it a go. It can start small. It will feel awkward, but you will be surprised at the amazing support that can come off the back of just one moment of honest sharing - be it in media or social. No more excuses! (Telling myself this!)
