Info
Ebere Akadiri is a social entrepreneur, leadership development strategist, and women's leadership champion. Driven by a deep commitment to fairness and equity, Ebere founded Rise & Lead Women to democratise leadership and address the systemic barriers that hinder women's progress in the workplace and marketplace. Under her leadership, Rise & Lead Women partners with corporate leaders, HR and DEI professionals, offering comprehensive leadership development programs and industry benchmarking data to help women achieve their career aspirations and organisations to build an inclusive culture where everyone thrives.
With over 26 years of business experience, Ebere has successfully led and grown multiple businesses, including a multi-branch restaurant and a female-focused fashion retail brand, which she built from the ground up and achieved eight figures in revenue. Her extensive experience in building, managing, and scaling businesses helped her build the Rise & Lead Women platform into an internationally recognised brand in Europe within a short period.
In addition to her work with Rise & Lead Women, Ebere is dedicated to supporting black entrepreneurs in the diaspora through her BIEL initiative. She also owns the Ataro Foods brand, where she continues to drive innovation and provide West African food and spices.
Ebere's influence extends beyond her entrepreneurial ventures. Her work has significantly impacted individual careers and organisational cultures, positioning her as a leading voice in the movement towards gender equity in leadership. She is a sought-after speaker, mentor, and thought leader recognised for her inspiring journey and unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

How can you develop a cross-functional mentoring program?
Occasionally, bringing in external experts to facilitate a session or share insights can provide a fresh perspective and expose participants to a broader range of strategies and methodologies. Besides training, creating peer support groups can be invaluable. These groups can serve as forums where mentors and mentees can share their experiences, challenges, and successes, promoting community and collaboration.

How can you develop a cross-functional mentoring program?
When selecting participants for a cross-functional mentoring program, it's vital to be aware of potential biases, particularly affinity bias, that can skew the selection process. Affinity bias is the unconscious tendency to gravitate towards people with similar backgrounds, interests, or characteristics. This can inadvertently lead to a lack of diversity in mentoring pairings and limit the broad range of perspectives and experiences that enrich such programs. Emphasising diversity and inclusion in the selection process is not just about fairness; it's about leveraging diverse thoughts, experiences, and skills to foster innovation, creativity, and holistic growth.

How can you develop a cross-functional mentoring program?
In my experience developing cross-functional mentoring programs for large organisations, it’s important to create a mentorship guidebook as part of the training program. Providing participants with a mentorship guidebook or toolkit can be a valuable addition to everything described above. This resource can contain best practices, navigating the mentoring relationship, examples of meeting agendas, FAQs, checklists, success stories, and other relevant information. This guidebook will help participants to feel guided and empowered throughout their mentoring journey. Secondly, apart from formal evaluations, regular informal check-ins can provide real-time insights into the progress of the mentorship. These can be less structured.
