I have over 10 years of experience in digital product management across various industries and markets. I hold a Master of Science in International Technology Management from the University of Warwick, and have completed executive education courses in leading teams and organisational change.
I lead a team of product managers and designers who create and improve the supply side of our platform at TourRadar, working with tour operators, and partners to provide the best experiences and offers for travelers around the world. My core competencies include product strategy, user research, data analysis, agile development, and stakeholder management. I have successfully launched and scaled multiple products and platforms, such as online retail, logistics, travel, and FMCG. My passion is to create products that solve real problems, delight customers, and deliver value for the business. Ads suck! So many companies spend millions to make user-centric designs only to completely destroy them with ads, pop-ups and bloatware. Companies need to make money, so product people... what are some alternatives? I’m going to provide some product examples and I want to hear in the comments how these companies could take a different approach to driving revenue WITHOUT destroying the user experience. Here are some examples: - Gmail: is riddled with inline ads - Pinterest: is riddled with ads - Windows: now with start menu ads - Phone: every update comes with bloatware - Online recipe sites: Good luck even finding the recipe between the ads. - Every streaming service (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) How would you continue to drive revenue with different solutions that were not as intrusive as these ads? For example, why isn't there a paid level of Pinterest that is ad-free? Dear Product Owner, if this post describes in any way what you are doing in your current role then you might want to determine: Are you limiting yourself or being limited by others? If you are limiting yourself, become the Product Owner that your team and your product need to realize their full potential for the ultimate benefit of your users, customers and stakeholders. Request support from your Scrum Master or an Agile Coach if you have one. If you are being limited by others like management or company culture, try to understand why and what you can do to improve your context or at least carve out some space for yourself and your team to do good work. Finally, If you are happy writing user stories, moving items around Jira, and pretty much saying Yes to every request you receive, please consider doing another job or at least have the decency not to call yourself a Product Owner.

Product Operations is much more tied to Strategy than you think. We don’t want product tooling and frameworks to slow down the whole company - but sadly that happens too often. If you don’t want to fall into this trap, there are two things you need to take care of: 👉 On top of the change management aspects, your strategic vision must be integrated into the design of your operating model. I guess (or I hope) that that’s not a surprise for you. 👉 More importantly, your Product Operating Model must be continuously adapted to changes happening in the company Strategy. The cool thing is that if you adopt this mindset, you will keep your Operating Model as light as possible to make sure you can adapt. You will have to decide where ‘good enough’ is enough and where you really need to go for more processes. This is where Product Operations (whether you have a dedicated team or not) will be a game changer - not by providing branded templates of the latest hyped canvas, but by maintaining an adaptable system of work. A rigid Strategy that’s set in stone for years to come is not viable anymore? The same holds true for your Operating Model. Because if it’s not flexible and continuously maintained, your only way to adapt to change is a reorg. And nobody wants another reorg…
