Empowering young minds through technology is a key part of our mission. Our initiative Zarttalent hosted their informative How to Win with Tech Summit on October 17, 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria. The event brought together industry leaders, teachers and students, sparking valuable conversations on youth empowerment in the digital age. Special guests were Sonia Onovughakpo Fajusigbe and Elizabeth Owei-Oladepo from the Dutch consulate who discussed tech’s role in youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. The event highlighted how tech can transform futures. Our CEO Nelson T. Ajulo, PhD’s opening talk on global tech opportunities and Sonia’s keynote on entrepreneurship captivated students, igniting their motivation and curiosity. With this summit, we take another step toward our goal of empowering over 5,000 students in five years—building a future of innovation and opportunity!
In 2020, Zarttech set out with a bold vision to provide transformative technology solutions. However, we quickly realized our desire to create a broader impact on the communities we serve. This vision led to the establishment of Zarttalent in May 2021, a foundation dedicated to equipping underserved African communities with essential tech skills, preparing them to compete on a global stage. Since its inception, Zarttalent has hit inspiring milestones. We’ve trained over 500 youths, offered scholarships to women, and formed partnerships with institutions like Covenant University and Afe Babalola University. Together, we help students develop vital tech skills and integrate these programs into their curriculum, fostering a new generation of tech-savvy leaders. Inspired by these achievements and the positive feedback from our students, we hosted the How to Win with Tech Summit on October 17, 2024. This event allowed us to reach a broader audience and reinforce our commitment to Africa’s tech-driven future. We were honored to have Sonia Onovughakpo Fajusigbe, Policy Advisor for Entrepreneurship, Youth Employment, & Health Care at the Netherlands Embassy in Lagos, as our keynote speaker. Elizabeth Oladepo, Youth Advisor at the Netherlands Consulate General, also joined us, emphasizing the summit’s importance in driving innovation among Nigerian youth. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Netherlands in Nigeria mission for their support in these vital initiatives. A memorable moment was the Q&A session with students. Their curiosity about my journey and the challenges I've faced truly touched me. It was a reflection of their aspirations and dreams. Their eagerness to learn reminded me how essential it is to connect young people with mentors and resources, nurturing a community that believes in their potential. It is moments like this that makes me reflect on how I started. It is moments like this that reinforces my big WHY because I could see my young self in every one of them. It is clear that Africa’s future lies in the hands of these young minds, and I am committed to making that happen. I would like to express my appreciation to Deborah U. N., Babatunde Shodeinde, Chidi Nwaogu, and Oreoluwa Adesanaya for their invaluable insights during the panel session, and to our media partners Ugo Onwuaso, Chinenye Anuforo, Peter Oluka, kelechi Ewuzie, and BusinessDay, The Sun Nigeria, Techeconomy, Leadership, Daily Independent, Daily Post NG,and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)—for amplifying our mission. This summit reaffirmed Zarttalent's vision: to empower over 5,000 young talents over the next five years with critical digital skills. We aim to go beyond technical education, fostering resilience, confidence, and belief in the boundless possibilities ahead. Empowering the next generation means equipping them with the tools to break the chains of yesterday and unlock the potential of tomorrow, and WE are just getting started.
