📢 New board member @ Young IRO: Welcome Annika ! Since September, we have had two new board members join #YoungIRO - and today we want to let the first one introduce herself to our members: "Hi! 👐 I am Annika, 25 years old, and always looking for a new challenge, which brought me here. Bringing stakeholders together, inspiring to change the status quo, and thus giving silent stakeholders such as nature and society the voice needed to create a #greeneconomy– that is my motivation, and that is why I joined the Young IRO board in September 2024. I am looking forward to fun events, educational knowledge exchange, and mostly a great community to get to know! 🥰 Other challenges I took in the past were for example moving abroad to the Netherlands from Germany during the lockdown in 2021 (and not having left since 🙊 ) or founding a sustainable #startup in Groningen which is where I discovered my passion for #sustainability and #education. In February, I joined ECHT regie in transitie, which is a consultancy for energy transition, based in Utrecht. I am currently working on circularity and human capital projects. I hope to meet a lot of you during our "Herfstborrel" on the 17th of October in Rotterdam or during one of our next events!"

🏗️🛳 Young-IRO kijkt terug op een geslaagd evenement bij Huisman. Naast de altijd interessante rondleiding door de fabriek 🏭 en op de Huisman Innovation Tower 🗼, hadden we een aantal boeiende presentaties 👩🏫. Irene van Heijningen over het werk als concept engineer. Jelle ter Braak en Wouter Rijkee over het ontwerpprocess van de Heerema gripper. Interessant om invalshoeken van beide bedrijven mee te krijgen bij dit complexe ontwerp📝🛠️! Na dit alles, was het natuurlijk tijd voor een biertje en een bitterbal🍺. Breman Machinery specialises in high precision fabrication of components and finished products. Last Thursday we had the privilege of to visit them in Genemuiden. Although it was a long haul with the bus from Rotterdam, it was worth every mile of the travel. The day began with a short presentation, shortly followed by tours of the factory floor, which contains some of the biggest turning and milling machines you will ever see. Afterwards we had a welding workshop, which a lot of YIRO-members did with pleasure - it's one thing making calculations involving welds behind your desk, it's another doing it in practice. The afternoon ended in style with drinks and an opportunity to meet new and old acquaintances from the industry. A big thanks to Niek Breman and all others at Breman Machinery making this visit possible.
