Dear network, we want to shine some light on this year's theme of the SensUs competition, acute kidney injury. To delve deeper into the theme, we visited the Nierstichting (the Dutch kidney foundation) in Bussum. There we had the opportunity to speak to Jasper M. Boomker. Jasper is program manager at the foundation he talked to us about the important work they do for kidney patients and highlighted how important the research on kidney disease is. Thank you Jasper and the Nierstichting for this opportunity and educational interview.

Introducing the team members of WDsense! From left to right: back – Victor van der Doorn, Jochem Feith, Erwin Hogeveen, David Feith; front - Joël Vandervinnen, Valérie Hogenes, Nele Jarnot We are seven motivated bachelor and master students from Wageningen University & Research and TU Delft from the studies of Molecular Life Sciences, Biotechnology, and Electrical Engineering and participate in this year's SensUs Student Competition: the development of a continuous biosensor for monitoring kidney health. Our motivation for this project is best described by both our universities' mottos: To improve the quality of life and to achieve impact for a better society. In our studies, we gained a lot of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, which is of course fun by itself but sometimes it is hard to see what it can be used for. That is why we take part in the SensUs competition: we can finally put our education to good use and make something that can benefit the world, in particular, improving the lives of kidney patients. Especially because we know people who are at risk of acute kidney injury (AKI), we are focused on doing our best in this challenge. We are excited to create something valuable from scratch and plan to achieve this with our shared enthusiasm for the project but while also not forgetting to have fun along the way. 📷 @wd_sense ✉ [email protected]

We are back to compete in the SensUs Student Competition and we're rebranding! SensWURk is now WDsense! This year, the Wageningen and Delft Universities are teaming up to tackle this years theme. Our mission is to develop a continuous biosensor for measuring creatinine, a biomarker used to monitor kidney function. We are combining life science knowledge from Wageningen University & Research with technical engineering from TU Delft. With this multidisciplinary team we are confident we’ll succeed in this challenge. We are looking forward to introducing ourselves soon! We want to thank WUR Student Challenges and the team from last year for making our participation possible. 📷 @wd_sense ✉ [email protected]

✨ SenseWURk is recruiting a new team to represent WUR at the 2024 edition of the SensUs Student Competition! ✨ SensUS is a yearly student competition focused on the development of health biosensors. This year’s theme is Chronic kidney failure and the selected biomarker is creatinine. 🧬🥼 The SensUs challenge is a great opportunity to develop 21st-century skills, work in a motivated multi-disciplinary team, see your ideas come to life in the form of a working prototype, as well as a great chance to boost your CV. 🌟 The 2023 SenseWURk team had an amazing learning journey and ended as runner-up. 🤩 We are organizing an info meeting on the 3rd of November from 12:45 to 13:45 in Plus Ultra II (training room). We are looking for students with a technical background, as well as students with business and communication backgrounds.🤝🏼 Register via this link to join our info session 🍀:(https://lnkd.in/d-d7aXkS). See you soon! ✨

🧠🩸 Last week was the conclusion of the SensUs competition! After 4 days of testing, pitching, networking, workshops and fun at the Innovation Days in Eindhoven, we were awarded two runner-up positions and a gold medal! 🏆🏆🏅 We won second place in Analytical Performance, as well as for the Distributed Testing. You could say that a year of blood(plasma), sweat and tears have really paid off! Our team is beyond grateful for all the experiences we had, the knowledge we gained, the people we met and the help and support we got along the way. We'd like to thank our sponsors, partners, interviewees and coaches for their help; these results would not have been possible without you! WUR sensing it! 🧠🩸 #sensus #sensusstudentcompetition2023 #studentchallenge #wageningenuniversity #wur #wurlife #sensewurk #wursensingit #traumaticbraininjury #tbi #biosensor #stem
