VISION DRIVER - ERGONOMICS AT ITS BEST! Before diving into the world of VISION PASSENGER, Vision driver’s concluding post is all about our ‘fit for all’ philosophy. ✔ In the driver environment, an ergonomic and comfortable seating position is essential. This increases alertness, comfort and reduces physical stress and ultimately contributes to coach driver health and satisfaction, thus preventing absenteeism. ✔ Besides the driver's seat, an optimal steering position is also extremely important. With the new steering lay-out, the steering wheel can be positioned both upwards and towards the driver. This makes the new Futura 3 suitable for any driver and offers the most comfortable ride! #VisionFutura

Our new generation Citea won the European Product Design Awards (ePDA) After being honoured with the Red Dot Design Award and winning the Design Award at Busworld in 2023, our 100% electric city bus now also received the prestigious European Product Design Award. The European Product Design Award jury commended several aspects of our design, including the modern aerodynamic exterior inspired by urban landscapes. The use of single-piece composite sides not only reduces weight but also enhances efficiency, embodying VDL’s commitment to design with a focus on a sustainable world. The design philosophy focused on striking the perfect balance between our VDL brand and the Citea heritage, while infusing it with a timeless yet contemporary feel that will endure the total lifespan of this vehicle. In addition, the jury praised the interior design for its open and spacious ambiance, which draws inspiration from architectural principles rather than traditional automotive norms. We aimed to create a welcoming, homely environment through thoughtful lighting, layout and material choices. VDL’s design team members in collaboration with partner Modyn were presented with the award.

VISION DRIVER - Discover Futura’s new cockpit!   Finding skilled professional drivers is becoming increasingly challenging in today's market. Therefore, the aim of "joy behind the wheel" is to make interaction with the vehicle and its controlling as easy as possible. By simplifying the vehicle interaction, the driver quickly makes the vehicle its own. ✔ As an example, the redevelopment of the VDL design climate controller is characterised by convenience and simplicity. This in-house designed climate controller was inspired by climate controllers from the automotive sector. ✔ Attention has also been paid to the positions of the various controllers. Through recognition, the driver will quickly find the correct settings on the climate unit. ✔ The new digital dashboard has been developed according to the philosophy “eyes on the road, hands on the wheel”. By applying recognisable and unambiguous messages and controls, the driver will quickly become familiar with using the dashboard and is able to stay fully focused on the road. #VisionFutura

VISION DRIVER – Safety first! Safety is a top priority at VDL Bus & Coach. In the new Futura, huge efforts have been made in terms of driver safety. The coach driver is positioned in front of the wheels of the vehicle. Therefore, in the event of an accident, the driver is located in a high risk area. To increase safety and minimise the impact of both the driver and the colliding car, the FIP (Front Impact Protection) and FUP (Front Underrun Protection) have been developed for the new Futura. ✔ The Front Underrun Protection is a steel construction and is positioned at the bottom of vehicle. This prevents cars from becoming trapped under the front of the coach in case of frontal impact. ✔ The Front Impact Protection is hidden above the Front Underrun Protection behind the bumper. In the event of a rear-end collision, this construction provides additional protection for the driver and a potential tour guide. VDL Bus & Coach has also made great strides with regards to driver assistance & safety systems, to ensure a safe travel experience. ✔ Safety systems that support the driver and provide both active and reactive support while driving, are becoming increasingly important. These systems are captured under the term ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Many of these systems have already been added to the standard specifications in recent years. With the introduction of the new Futura, an additional number of these systems will be added. SAFETY FIRST!

The Bus Euro Test for ‘the Bus of the Year’ is in full swing! Yesterday brake tests and accelerating tests, today product presentations and of course… test drives. We’re with a large group of journalists from more than 15 countries! VISION DRIVER – Recognisable VDL Vision Futura belongs to the Futura family and incorporates recognisable design elements from previous generations. In addition, the vehicle is characterised by its own contemporary design. A clear design element is the recognisable Futura headlight. In terms of performance, the light output of the headlight has been significantly improved, resulting in even better visibility for the driver which can reduce fatigue and improves driver reaction time, especially when driving in dark conditions. The side indicator integrated in the headlight covers the category 6 indicator and eliminates the need for a separate side indicator. The flat shape of the headlight ensures that it continues to function optimally even in extreme winter conditions. The new headlight is a closed headlight which also enhances the vehicle’s aerodynamics!

We’ve been honoured with the International busplaner Sustainability Award 2024! The expert jury voted us first place in the category Electric buses: 18 metres with the product new generation Citea LF-181.
