𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸-𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻 Van Oord and Boskalis have commenced the preparatory dredging works for Sweden’s largest dredging project in modern times. To facilitate the production and export of green steel in the north of Sweden, the port and waterways in Luleå need to be deepened. Once the Malmporten project is completed, the Port of Luleå will be able to accommodate larger vessels, enabling three to four times the current cargo capacity. The dredging of the port and waterways significantly improves maritime transport efficiency while minimising environmental impact. Van Oord’s backhoe dredger Simson and Boskalis’ backhoe dredger Magnor now started dredging the port and fairway to enable the subsequent work to be carried out as efficiently as possible.

𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞: 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 Project update from Lincolnshire! 📣 The Saltfleet to Gibraltar Point Beach Management Scheme has been successfully completed by Van Oord on behalf of the Environment Agency. This year, the Vox Alexia, an LNG trailing suction hopper dredger, was visible from the shore, playing a key role in the project. Our involvement went beyond the project’s technical demands. We’ve supported educational initiatives, training, and flood risk awareness through university visits, primary school workshops, and collaborations with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Additionally, we participated in the Sutton on Sea beach clean-up, helped install a defibrillator, and operated a Public Information Unit. 🦺 We’re proud that our care for the community was noticed and that this year’s Considerate Constructors Scheme assessment awarded us full marks score and three bonus points for Innovation! 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐟𝐬𝐥𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐝𝐢𝐣𝐤 💪 It's quite a sight: no less than 6 crane vessels from Paans Van Oord bv at work on the Afsluitdijk. In various locations, sections of the seabed are being excavated and transported by our vessels to be reused elsewhere along the Afsluitdijk. A nice example of circularity. ♻️ Additionally, we are installing fascine mattresses at various points to protect the seabed. This is being done near the new discharge sluices at Den Oever, as well as at the Fish Migration River, where migratory fish swim from the Wadden Sea into the IJsselmeer. The fascine mattresses, made of geotextile topped with braided willow branches, protect the seabed from erosion when discharging large volumes of water. The placement of these mattresses involves precise positioning of quarry stone. Craftsmanship at its finest! 👏 The Levvel-consortium (BAM, Van Oord, Rebel, and Invesis) is working with various expertises on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat to strengthen the Afsluitdijk and construct one of the largest pumping stations in Europe. 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 💨 Today Van Oord was recognised as a frontrunner in sustainability and sharing data by Qlik, as they rewarded us with the Global Impact Award for our Climate Risk Overview. This is a publicly available global tool which highlights coastal areas most at risk from the impacts of climate change. It is especially useful when determining which stretches of coastline are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and serves to highlight where sector leaders can best provide climate adaptation solutions. We are accelerating climate actions to help societies meet the climate challenge. Our ambition is to make vulnerable coastal communities and ecosystems more resilient. Colleague Johan de Graaf has been involved in the building process from the early stages as Project Manager Newbuilding and has been overseeing the construction from close by. 👀 ‘The Boreas has been afloat for a few weeks now, and it’s great to see the vessel coming to life. Throughout the entire newbuilding process, it is the people who determine its success. I’m extremely proud of the project teams at Van Oord and the shipyard, who work with great commitment and enthusiasm to achieve each milestone successfully.
