TAPA EMEA's President & CEO, Thorsten Neumann will be one of the speakers participating in the ‘Pharmaceutical Distribution’ conference in Cologne on 9-10 September to raise more awareness of #security #risks in the #supplychain for #pharma manufacturers, distributors, and #logistics providers. TAPA EMEA’s membership already includes a high number of the world’s leading #pharmaceutical organisations but we believe many more businesses in this sector can benefit from the industry standards, intelligence, training, and networking connections our Association can provide. The potential risk to public health means #cargo #thefts targeting pharma products can have extremely costly and far-reaching impacts. Pharma supply chains are generally extremely resilient because of these risks – but the level of threats from #organisedcrime and others means maintaining the highest levels of risk #intelligence is a vital component to protect the security of #supplychains. On 10 September, Thorsten will be presenting an overview of these risks, looking at current #trends, and discussing how TAPA EMEA can help pharma companies and their supply chain partners maintain #supplychainresilience. It’s summertime and #supplychain professionals across the #Europe, #MiddleEast & #Africa region will be enjoying or preparing to enjoy well-earned holiday time with their families and friends. But, back at base, their #security programmes and #resilience teams will be as active as ever because statistics clearly remind us that organised criminals never take a summer break. Cargo crime in a 24/7/365 ‘business’. Data from the #tapaemea Intelligence System (TIS) for recorded #cargo #thefts in our region in July and August 2023 shows a total of 1,780 incidents in 62 countries. This included a €100 million loss of metal from the supply chain inventory of a company in Hamburg, Germany, and a further 351 cargo thefts with a value totalling €49,512,770 or an average of €141,062. Excluding the €100m loss, the other 54 major cargo #losses – goods with a value of €100K or more – produced an average loss value of €841,358. This is all in the space of 62 days last summer. So, as our members know, even when we are personally taking a break, their organisations stay active and stay alert because the risk of cargo crime is never far away. Stay vigilant. #supplychains #lossprevention #supplychainsecurity #tapa

We are aligned with IRU, the International Road Transport Union in welcoming news of an additional €60 million in funding from the European Commission to support the building and upgrading of more secure #truck #parking areas in #Europe. As well as helping to protect #drivers, vehicles and loads, this latest funding sends a clear message to truck drivers that their #security is paramount. Initiatives like this can help build confidence in the commercial driving community that the focus on driver safety has never been greater. This, in turn, will, hopefully, help to attract more people into the #roadtransport industry, where the lack of drivers and the driving community’s aging population are a major concern. #tapaemea is also playing an important role in this process. As well as being an approved training centre for the EC Safe & Secure Truck Parking Areas (SSTPA) Standard, our own Parking Security Requirements (PSR) Standard is now giving our members access to a PSR parking network spanning Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden. Our new Driver Security Guide is available in 15 languages, and we are in the process of developing a new driver training programme. Of course, we can all do more but to achieve the changes we need in terms of a bigger choice of secure parking places and a bigger pool of driving talent is going to take time. We just have to keep moving forward towards achieving these goals and the developments mentioned are all positive signs of progress. #eu '#ru #parkingareas #roadfreight #freightforwarding #supplychains

#trucks and #drivers and likely to experience more delays at EU borders once the new EU Entry-Exit System is introduced. This will be a concern for #manufacturers and their #logistics providers because, from a cargo security and loss prevention perspective, 'goods at rest are goods at risk'. While the system has been delayed until later in the year, businesses must be prepared for the inevitable disruption it will cause to movements of goods. #euborders #supplychaindisruption #supplychains
The threat of #disruption likely to be caused by the introduction of the new EU Entry-Exit System (EES) - which requires every non-EU citizen to register biometric data (such as fingerprints) at the border – has been delayed once again. The new implementation date, media reports suggest, is now set for 10 November 2024. #supplychain stakeholders are continuing to warn of delays, particularly on the British and French sides of the channel, once the new system in enforced. This may particularly impact movements of goods in the peak season leading up to Christmas. Any delays, of course, may heighten #security #risks to #cargo if #truck queues build up as a result of a slower #border crossing process. Look out for further updates on the EU Entry-Exit System website: https://lnkd.in/eYsqPTyq #tapa #EU #bordercontrols #supplychainsecurity #supplychains #freight #logistics

Thank you to the #roadtransport media specialists at HGV Ireland for sharing news of TAPA EMEA's new Driver Security Guide. This 24-page Guide is designed to improve the #safety and #security of #truck #drivers as well as to protect their vehicles and loads. The guide is #free and available to download now in 15 languages. If you operate a #trucking fleet, please download and share it with your driver community. IRU, the international road transport union, say it expects shortages of truck drivers in Europe alone to at least double in the coming years. This is partly due to an ageing driver population - with a third of truck drivers in Europe over 55 years of age - but concerns over safety and security are also key factors deterring more people coming into this vital profession. As an industry, we must do everything we can to support and protect our current driver pool and to send a strong message to new people choosing driving as a career that their safety is our priority.
