"Get into bioinformatics way sooner! While I do appreciate the field of software engineering in general, I’ve found that it is so much more rewarding when you can apply your skills in a field that is both challenging and highly relevant to society like bioinformatics." - This is the advice that Jan Blom would give to his younger self. 💡 If you are curious about the unique journeys of our employees and how they ended up doing what they do today, great news! We’ve restarted our Hyver Stories, a series of interviews with our team members. 👀 First up, meet Jan Blom, a dedicated Software Engineer specialized in OHDSI (Observational Health Data Sciences & Informatics). At The Hyve, Jan plays a crucial role in our Real World team, focusing on data harmonization and maintaining the ETL components of #OHDSI software tools. In his interview, he shares his journey to The Hyve, what he enjoys most about working with us, and many other exciting aspects of his life and career. 📖 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/ecx3UjpG. #HyverStories #Bioinformatics #SoftwareEngineering #OHDSI #RealWorldData #DataHarmonization #TheHyve

Last week, some of us had the opportunity to attend the 7th edition of Women in Technology World Series in Amsterdam. 👩💻 ✨ For the women at The Hyve, this conference was more than just an event. It was a place to form connections, exchange ideas, and be motivated by the personal journeys of growth from fellow women in tech. We participated in meaningful conversations about our existing challenges and recharged with fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to spark #innovation and #inclusivity in our workplace. A heartfelt thank you to all the speakers and participants for sharing your inspiring stories and to the organizers for creating such a meaningful experience!💡 Elisa Cirillo | Melissa Fernando | Architha Ellappalayam, PhD | Femke Kopmels #WomeninTech #EWiT24 #WiTSeries

💡 Dive into the cutting-edge world of cancer genomics with our latest article, where Zeynep Karagöz, our Data Engineer specialized in cBioPortal, explores a new cBioPortal feature: "orientation-aware OQL filter for gene fusion events". In cancer genomics, identifying structural variants like gene fusions is crucial. 🧬These events, often a result of chromosomal rearrangements, create hybrid genes with abnormal protein functions, impacting cancer cell growth and disease progression. Explore how this innovative feature enhances our understanding and detection of gene fusion events, advancing targeted therapies and diagnostic accuracy by reading our article: https://lnkd.in/ey2Zxb8K. #CancerGenomics #OncologyResearch #PrecisionMedicine #OncoPrint #OQL #cBioPortal

🌟 Exciting Highlights from the OHDSI Symposium in Rotterdam! 🎇 We recently had an amazing time at the OHDSI Symposium (June 1st-3rd) in Rotterdam, filled with inspiration, innovation, and unforgettable moments. The symposium was packed with engaging tutorials, insightful discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. Some of our favorite moments included the successful ETL WG workshop led by our very own Data Engineer & Bioinformatician Anne van Winzum alongside Maxim Moinat (Erasmus MC) and Melanie Philofsky (Odysseus Data Services, Inc.) as well as a standout presentation by our Data Engineer Sofia Bazakou on the PHEMS consortium. We were also excited to showcase our work through posters highlighting DARWIN data quality and PHEMS use cases, which sparked some engaging discussions. 👇 Curious to know more about our experience at the symposium?
