🚀 Recap of Our Recent Lunch Lecture: AI in Science and Education 🎓🤖   Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a Lunch Lecture on the use of AI in science and education! 🌟   Our guest speakers, Julia Diederen and Bake de Rink, shared their knowledge on AI. They explained not only how we can use AI as a powerful tool but also how to recognize the use of it and how to avoid misuse. 💡   The lecturers performed a research during several of our courses on the usefulness of the use of AI and presented the results of their research during this Lunch Lecture. As we wrap up another successful year at Nicolas Appert, we look back at a year filled with lots of learning, starting new friendships and personal growth. From organizing events to creating new opportunities for our members, and providing and improving the foundation of our association.   Tessa Vissers, Former President & Secretary: The first half year as Secretary provided me with valuable insights into the inner structure of our association. Changing to President in the latter half allowed me to oversee and drive several projects, and it has been rewarding to see the enthusiasm and dedication of our members. I'm especially proud of how we updated our Internal Regulations, giving them a fresh outlook that aligns with our goals. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m grateful to have shared this experience with my fellow board members!   Esther Top, Former Vice President: What an amazing year it has been. During this year I have seen so many people grow on a personal and professional level; all of our active members, who spend so much time organizing activities for our association, of course all of my fellow board members and also myself. I am very proud of our input in the association and I’m grateful to have had this opportunity. I’m excited to see how the new board will fulfill its role.   Julius Pelle, Former Treasurer: I had the honor of serving as the treasurer for Nicolas Appert over the past year. It was a rewarding journey where I managed all financial aspects of our association. In addition to standard board responsibilities, I focused on implementing a new process whereby I developed an automated invoicing system. I’m proud of the strides we made during this time!   We would like to thank you all for the time and hard work you have put into our association. 📢 Exciting Lunch Activity with DUPP   Last week, we had the opportunity to attend the "Prepare Yourself for Work" activity organized by DUPP. It was an incredibly insightful session, packed with valuable feedback and practical tips to enhance our CVs.   The session kicked off with a deep dive into the job application process: What can you do after you graduate? They took us through all the different directions you can go in the Food Industry, showing how broad our opportunities are. Then they explained the job application process. From crafting a compelling cover letter to acing the interview, we covered all the essential steps. We also explored various strategies to find job opportunities post-graduation, ensuring we are well-prepared to enter the job market with confidence.   Following this, we moved on to improving our CVs. DUPP presented a comprehensive PowerPoint filled with tips and tricks to make our CVs stand out. They didn't stop there—they reviewed some of our CVs live, providing personalized feedback that was both constructive and encouraging.   A huge thank you to Harmen van Essen and Michiel Dekkers from DUPP for organizing this event. Visit to the Leerdammer Factory! 🧀 Last week, our study association had the incredible opportunity to visit the Leerdammer factory in Schoonrewoerd! Royal Lactalis Leerdammer, known for producing some of the finest cheeses, gave us a behind-the-scenes look at their impressive operation. From the moment the fresh milk is collected, we followed the journey through to the final stages where the cheese is expertly ripened, cut, and packaged. It was fascinating to see the meticulous process and dedication to quality at every step. A big thank you to Silvia van Nieuwenhuizen from Leerdammer for this educational and delicious experience! We left with a deeper appreciation for the craft of cheese-making and a newfound love for Leerdammer cheese. 🌟 What an incredible experience! 🌟 Our association had the privilege of visiting Unilever Foods Innovation Centre 'Hive' 🐝, for an exclusive tour that took us behind the scenes of their state-of-the-art facilities. From the pilot plant, where we learned the intricacies of upscaling projects, to the fascinating office and lab tour. We delved into the world of sensory science and scratch cooking together with experts Danai Tziouri and Christian Vendy, gaining a deeper understanding of the innovation driving Unilever’s food products. It was both educational and fun to witness firsthand the dedication and expertise that goes into every project. Say "CHEESE"🧀📸   Yesterday, we had the pleasure of participating in the Leerdammer Experience, generously hosted by our sponsor Royal Lactalis Leerdammer! 🧀 The highlight of the event was a KAASus (English: case study) focused on envisioning future products, followed by a comprehensive risk analysis. Last Saturday we had a Siblings Day organized by our own members, where all our members could invite their siblings to experience a day in the life of a Food Scientist, including an interesting lecture and a practical.
