For two hours per day, Henk Bruijstens played the flute, while his wife accompanied him on the piano. But at a certain point, his tremors became too severe to properly play. Now, while wearing two orthoses, he can fully enjoy playin Chopin again! An amazing use-case of the STIL Orthosis - from a user that decided to bring a flute to the fitting room. In the end, it is not always the eating and drinking that troubles people with tremors most. Some things that define who you are - like hobby's - can have just as much impact on quality of life. 🌍 Vandaag is het Wereld Parkinson's dag 🧠 De ziekte van Parkinson is een van de meest voorkomende neurologische bewegingsstoornissen. En treft ook steeds meer mensen. Tremor - ofwel de trillende handen - is vaak het eerste wat mensen associëren bij Parkinson's. Toch is dat maar één van de symptomen. Daarnaast hebben patiënten ook balansproblemen, stijfheid in spieren en in vergevorderde stadia soms zelfs dementie of psychoses. Bij STIL ontwikkelen we een anti-tremor orthese, die verlichting geeft bij de tremoren. De orthese is klinisch effectief bevonden bij essentiële tremor, maar we zijn druk bezig om ook voor Parkinson's impact te kunnen maken. We've reached a milestone today: our STIL Orthosis was tested on the first German patient and our first demo-kit was delivered abroad! The test was conducted at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) in Kiel, a globally recognized academic hospital renowned for its tremor research. Thanks to Dr. med. Jos Steffen Becktepe, Prof. Dr. Kirsten Zeuner, and their team for their warm welcome. We also trained two occupational therapists at UKSH to use our STIL demo-kit for patient testing. Discover the journey of our STIL Orthosis in a recent interview with our CEO, IJsbrand de Lange, by our distribution partner Fieldlab Revalidatie. This partnership has been key in creating a device that helps people with tremors and making it available in the rehabilitation market. From the initial brainstorm to the creation of a demo-kit, we worked closely with Fieldlab Revalidatie and healthcare experts to make sure the STIL Orthosis fits seamlessly into existing treatment plans. This teamwork has opened doors for its use.
