First summer storm for Merganser With bft 9 and wind gusts above 90 km/h the first storm for Merganser is a fact. Our wave buoy Obscape B.V. noted a significant wave height of 3.8m with a maximum wave height of 7.1m. Below of a picture of Merganser coping nicely the storm, made by our colleague Nick van Keulen. A pleasure to see merganser floating calmly in the sunset after the storm had passed. https://lnkd.in/e2__6y-9

Merganser successfully installed There she is, floating in her natural habitat! Merganser has been successfully installed by Herman Senior b.v., SVITZER MARINE LIMITED, #PorttowageAmsterdam,Nauticas Marine Services, Rijkswaterstaat – our installation partners (often using Damen ships). Getting this clean energy platform out to sea (through the IJmuiden locks, which was a very tight fit) and safely moored to the seabed, is the culmination of cunning engineering, hard work, and some sheer determination! We are very grateful to our partner RWE and its willingness to share and contribute their knowledge and experiences to this project. Also, our DEI subsidy partners MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), TU Delft | Mechanical Engineering, Deltares and TNO have played an instrumental role in getting Merganser ‘hatched’ and securing it’s fit for purpose for the next phase. Now, Merganser is at sea, 12 kilometers off the coast of Scheveningen. If you know where to look, you can see her on a clear day. She now enters the testing phase, equipped with 100’s of sensors gathering important information and allowing us to further fine-tune the design and prepare us for bigger projects in the (near) future. We are proud of our team’s performance in realizing this project and the safe and smooth installation offshore. Learning by doing, that’s what we do at SolarDuck! Want to know more about this? Interested in learning if this is a suitable solution for your energy needs? Please let us know via our website or contact us directly via LinkedIn. #solarenergy #offshorenergy #maritime #cleanenergy #energytransition #RWE

How do you fit something, which is wider than the lock, through the lock? Leave that to SolarDuck! We are thrilled and proud to announce that Merganser, our Offshore Solar Pilot Plant, has successfully passed through the IJmuiden locks! This precise operation was expertly executed by the skilled tugboats Triton and Telstar from Svitzer. Getting her on seaside is another important step forward for Merganser. Thanks for the support provided by IJsbrandt Overmaat, Dutch Marine Contractors, Van Woerkom, Nobels & Ten Veen and Port of Amsterdam! We'll keep you updated on the progress, so stay tuned! 🌊⚓ #OffshoreSolar #Innovation #Sustainability #Maritime

SolarDuck would like to congratulate the winners of the latest #offshorewind tenders in the #Netherlands for the #IJmuidenVer Alpha and Beta projects, namely Noordzeker consortium (SSE Renewables and APG Asset Management) and the Zeevonk joint venture (Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners) respectively. Whilst these projects will significantly contribute to the renewable energy targets of the Netherlands, it is a particular satisfaction for SolarDuck that the Beta project will assist in establishing #OffshoreFloatingSolar as an important asset class in the #offshore #renewable space. https://lnkd.in/e5Byvt8E

SolarDuck is a proud member of the Katapult Ocean Family. During the very well organized Katapult Future Fest, we had the pleasure of attending the Investor Day om Wednesday. On Thursday the Katapult Future Fest was kicked-off with the Katapult Ocean Breakfast during which the Katapult Ocean Impact Report 2023 was presented (https://lnkd.in/den7aWFt). On Friday Koen Burgers was on the Solution Stage presenting SolarDuck. We look back at a well-organized conference/festival, with a great ability to meet and mingle and enjoy the positive vibe!

After the successful launch of the first project in Japan, SolarDuck is proud to announce the expansion of its regional office in Tokyo. The expansion of the SolarDuck office in Tokyo signifies our commitment to the Japanese market and serving the Asia Pacific region to accelerate the commercialization of our technology. The regional office will oversee business development activities over the entire Asia Pacific region. Both East Asia and Southeast Asia offer attractive growth prospects as the offshore energy industry matures. These market dynamics promise an exciting launchpad for offshore floating photovoltaic (OFPV) and SolarDuck. Below: On the 27th of May a successful launch event was held, with presentations of Tokyu Land Corporation and AMT. https://lnkd.in/eF2cZdpy

The 4th Annual Floating Solar PV Forum by Leadvent Group was another great opportunity for SolarDuck's Arnaud Ayral to provide an update to partners and industry peers, with lots of recent news on the progress of its pilots in Japan and the Netherlands. The event showcased the acceleration in Floating PV, and also confirmed the high level of interest in Offshore Floating PV. It brought together an extensive selection of SolarDuck partners such as DMEC (Dutch Marine Energy Centre) and Deltares to name just a few. Besides the general sharing of experience amongst FPV industry leaders, a key discussion was also on the benefits of hybridisation, in which floating solar is combined with other means of electricity generation. Various speakers offered insight into compelling case studies including a hydro/FPV hybrid presented by Erik Marstein from IFE where hybridisation could improve profitability by 28% as compared to a hydro-only baseline. This can prove to be valuable insights when also applied to the hybridization of OFPV with OSW.

SolarDuck and Tokyu Land Corporation are excited to announce that Japan's first offshore floating solar photovoltaic plant was commissioned. The “Tokyo Bay eSG Project” is now a reality, showcasing the potential of local renewable energy production at sea in Japan through the application of cutting-edge technology. This is a huge step in rolling out the technology in Japan and the wider APAC region. https://lnkd.in/gggXAeyG #offshoresolar #floatingsolar #greentech #cleantech Katapult Ocean Christian Rangen Invest-NL #offshorewind #solar

SolarDuck's floating offshore solar plant, Merganser, is nearing completion at the TMA Logistics in Velzen-Noord. The plant has an installed capacity of 520 kWp and includes six interconnected triangular platforms, assembled to withstand the severe storm conditions of the North Sea. It will move to the offshore test site North Sea Farmers, where the design will be tested for a period of 2-3 years. Bureau Veritas Group has awarded the world's first prototype certification for SolarDuck's floating offshore solar technology, used in the Merganser pilot, marking significant progress in marine renewable energy for offshore applications. The realization of this project has been true teamwork, hence we celebrated this with a gathering in the sun bringing together (project) partners, investors, colleagues and other friends and family. Thanks for your contributions to the project RWE, TNO, Deltares, Delft University of Technology, MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), Norsk Hydro, DMEC (Dutch Marine Energy Centre), WDH Cylinders, Dutch wind support, Invest-NL, Green Tower, Katapult Ocean, Link Venture Capital , Impulse and many others. Also thanks to Sjeff. for the drinks, bites and the amazing setup! 😉 The next phase of the journey is its installation on the North Sea, which will happen shortly. In other places in the world we are also progressing with projects. We will be sharing news shortly. We will keep you posted!
