'KCAP Set to Design Urban Development Vision for Chassé Quarter, in Breda' #Breda, the eighth largest city of the Netherlands, has ambitious plans to improve its city centre. On the eastern side of the city centre is the former Chassé military area, which was partly transformed in the late-1990s into Chassépark; a campus-like residential area designed by OMA. Chassé Quarter, just north of Chassépark, is the next adjacent urban area to be transformed and it is part of a larger vision for ‘Centre East’, which Breda approved an ambition document in mid-2023, following five key ambitions: -Strong urban character -High quality public space -Vibrant cultural hotspot -Living in the centre of Breda -A healthy future for urban life With a lively cultural scene and several venues such as a theatre, cinema and museum nearby; this area is set to become a vibrant cultural quarter with a lively programmed public space. Additionally, new programming is planned in the monumental former panopticon prison (Koepelcomplex) will be well integrated in the developmental plans. A key feature within the plans for this area of the city, will be a new urban park along the canal encircling the city centre. #KCAP was selected as a renowned international design firm with proven experience in devising innovative solutions to contemporary challenges, in dense urban centres. The selection committee also praised KCAP’s affinity for its innovative design across its core disciplines of architecture, landscape design, urban design and urban programming. The vision will be elaborated in a public-private collaboration between the municipality and a coalition of stakeholders, consisting of developers Synchroon, Heijmans, 3W real estate, AT Capital, EMRO Real Estate and social housing companies WonenBreburg and Alwel. Join DELVA is the landscape architect; Rebel leads PPP partnerships; SITE urban development is the project’s process manager; and agency De Wijde Blik communicatie will organise a city-wide participatory process—to involve citizens and others to voice their considerations, during the project’s planning process. The outcome of the process—set to occur throughout this year and the beginning of 2025—will result in a vision and development plan, elaborated through a co-creative ‘research by design’ method; creating a spatial framework and guidelines for public space, programming, mobility, energy and climate considerations, alongside several other qualitative parameters. Stay tuned as we release information on the project, throughout 2024. Read more about the urban vision over on our website: https://lnkd.in/ef2gbadW
