This Saturday Sickhouse is opening its first playground of the year at Concordia Ctrl.Bending is a playful exhibition where the artists open up machines and look inside the hardware, disrupt interfaces, reinvent control mechanisms, play with all kind of buttons and invite you to do the same. Next Saturday 18th we have a special event happening online and onsite. The Ultimate IndieMash is a contest for #playfulcreators from all over the world a show for online and onsite spectators. It started three years ago as Sickhouse Eurogaming, a contest inspired by the kitsch aesthetics of a very popular European musical show, but we wanted to go beyond it and be open to creators from all over the world (without them necessarily representing their country). The Ultimate IndieMash is a celebration of diversity within the indie-game community, our aim is to present alternative narratives and playful concepts. Do you want to meet our contestants? We selected 12 projects from diverse corners of the world (including UK, USA, South Africa, South Korea, Argentina and Europe). After being closed for the winter, Sickhoes will reopen its doors to all our visitors next Thursday 25th during RMTnext, at the Rijksmuseum Twenthe. More than a year ago we started collaborating with the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, who invited us to take over the hoes, an annex in the back garden, to be the second location of the Sickhouse. And now, that we are still without a location of our own, it will be site of more activities. On this occasion, we present Sickhoes #5 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 with 3 videos exploring digital landscapes. In addition, Iain Douglas (UK), based in Enschede and teacher at Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and Mark Coverdale (UK) are coming to Enschede specially to present Katoenopolis, a poetic machinima in its performative form. All this, programmed in correlation with the exhibitions of the museum. Last Thursday we had a special session of COLLIDERS, our game maker meet up, at DesignLab University of Twente.  It was a great evening with presentations by Zuraida Buter and Pablo San Gregorio. We also introduced Boredom Presents (Bernie, Arash Hosseini and Sami Auji) the new talents following SickProd 2024, our program to support young local studios. 👉 OPEN CALL playful creatives! 🐔 🕹 The Ultimate IndieMash Playful Contest will be held on the 18th of May 2024 and YOU can be part of it! The Ultimate IndieMash is a contest for unique playful makers from around the world, to present their work to an international audience. Hosted live from Enschede, NL, and streamed for everyone online, the participants get three minutes each to showcase their game, interactive project, immersive installation or playful performance. At the end of the program, the public and a jury of professionals will vote for their favourite project. Besides receiving the Sickest Trophy, the winner of the Ultimate IndieMash will also get a spot at The Overkill Festival 2024 (to happen on 20-24 November). Without a physical space to gather, Sickhouse is still looking for different ways to be present, support its community and share playfulness. 🕹 Last weekend Sickhouse was "open" for The Global Game Jam! It was so great to be together again with playful people. We are very glad we could work at Concordia to create our games! Check the 4 projects developed this weekend, the theme was " Make them laugh". A good starting point into more research about the role of humour in our societies and how we can use it as acts of resistance...
