Making a positive impact with bio-solutions in Kenya 🌍 Daan Vreeburg, a business advisor at Agriterra, is leading an innovative project to create a low-carbon coffee chain in Kenya. Agriterra is promoting sustainability with partners by producing bio-compost and bio-fertilisers. ☕ Traditional coffee production relies heavily on synthetic fertilisers, contributing significantly to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Agriterra’s project helps coffee cooperatives switch to bio-fertiliser solutions and turn coffee berries into compost, reducing these emissions. 💬 “Three years ago, we dreamed of producing bio-compost and bio-fertilisers on a large scale, and now we are doing it!” says Daan. Despite initial challenges convincing cooperatives to switch from synthetic fertilisers, Agriterra now works with seven cooperatives. This approach not only reduces CO2 but also supports financial stability. As synthetic fertiliser prices have soared, bio-fertilisers remain affordable and sustainable. Daan hopes this project will inspire others to see the long-term benefits of bio-solutions. #Agiterra #Kenya #biosolutions

In Malawi, small-scale farmers are thriving thanks to a Dutch-Malawian partnership. With support from Sable Farming, farmers like Anna Kanyowa in Kalimbuka are now growing macadamia nuts. Each farmer received 100 trees, transforming their livelihoods and connecting them to international markets. 🌍 "Macadamia farming is a long-term investment," says H.S. Pannu of Sable Farming. "These trees yield nuts for up to 35 years, providing steady income year-round." Supported by Development Aid from People to People (DAPP Malawi) and Mikolongwe Vocational School, farmers are gaining crucial nut cultivation and disease management skills. The impact is clear: Malawi’s macadamia yield is projected to jump from 5,000 kilos in 2021 to 100,000 kilos in 2023, with a potential for 900,000 kilos in a decade. Intersnack Procurement is committed to buying these nuts to ensure a sustainable European market supply. 🌰 This project highlights the power of partnerships and knowledge-sharing in creating a brighter future. 🌟 #malawi #sdg12 #macadamia Amarens Felperlaan

Problems in international supply chains are often complex, especially in emerging markets. Companies can still contribute to sustainable and responsible international value chains by working with local suppliers. At the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, we contribute to sustainable and responsible value chains. We do this through subsidies and programmes that focus on combating child labour, making value chains more sustainable, improving working conditions (such as a living wage), Responsible Business Conduct (RBC), due diligence and responsible mining. Here are a few highlights of what our projects achieved in 2023! ⤵ #valuechains #sustainableproduction #responsibleproduction #duediligence #childlabour #livingwage

Child labour refers to situations where children are too young to work, are exposed to dangerous conditions, or are kept out of school. It is a serious issue that demands our urgent attention. 📢 Imagine a world where every child can play, learn and grow without the burden of work. 🌍 Learn more about sustainable and responsible value chains ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eHyj3p3J
