Supporting people with a migratory background in rooting in themselves, their community and their surroundings.
Over ons
Rooted is an organization in the Netherlands that supports people with a migratory background in rooting. At Rooted we believe rooting goes beyond finding a job, learning the language and joining a community. Rooting is about living as your authentic self, integrating your memories of the past and dreams for the future in the present. It is about accepting that you have multiple identities, multiple homes and that there is a place for all of that in the present moment. Rooted goes beyond integration. Rooting is engaging in a dialogue with your surroundings in a way that is empathetic to yourself and your past experiences. At Rooted we provide a safe space, increased consciousness and concrete tools to be your true and wholesome self. Rooted offers 1-on-1 coaching as well as group weekends. During the group weekends the participants will engage with Rooted facilitators in different workshops and sessions, all geared towards rooting. There will also be plenty of time for silence, relaxation and grounding. Participants will leave with a strengthened sense of belonging to themselves, their communities and their surroundings. By choosing to participate in Rooted, we invite you to take ownership of growing your own roots in the Netherlands and ultimately, in your self.

Rooted Festival 2024: Connecting. Inspiring. Grounding. "Our paths may have been re-routed. But let it not be disputed: together, we stand rooted." On 20 June we came together in the midst of the forest to celebrate our diverse identities and to build a collective home. To take root, together. Rooting is messy. It is a lifelong search for the balance between different identities and homes. That process deserves time and attention, in both personal and public space, because it is something that affects us all. New roots in Dutch soil by definition change our shared ecosystem. A debate about being for or against migration or about protecting ‘the norm’ is therefore also useless, we would say. We are all variations within a norm, a norm that is changing by the day. A more essential question is: how do we ensure a healthy environment where our roots can grow into strong trees? This question applies to people with and without a migration background. We see a growing need to create a space where the conversation about an individual and collective home can be held from a place of curiosity and love. So that's what we did. Moderated by Leila Prnjavorac and Anna Drijver, opened by wonderful Gerhard van den Top, mayor of Hilversum, and with workshops and performances from countless inspiring people, among whom Naaz, Saman Amini, Dilan Yurdakul, Soraya Shawki, Andrea Vonkeman, Frank Candel, Weini Woldu, Idris El Hassan, Elena Ponzoni, Welcome app, Road of Hope Foundation, People for People Foundation, UNHCR Nederland, de VN-Vluchtelingenorganisatie, Cinetree, Hanna Verboom, Alejandra Ortiz, Makers Unite, Charo Durán., Hester Dam, Sandra Nauta van der Rijst, Wick Lichtveld, Rahel Boon-Dejene, Yordi Lassooy-Tekle, Stichting Reclame Maken Voor Jezelf, Jack Westerlaken, Ribal El Khatib, Anna Lillioja, Natasja van der Meer and others. Thank you to all the organizers, performers, volunteers and participants. See you at Rooted Festival 2025! 📷 by Jetske Amijs

To commemorate World Refugee Day, dedicated to remember refugees all around the globe, Rooted Cinetree UNHCR Nederland, de VN-Vluchtelingenorganisatie and Buitenplaats De Hoorneboeg organized a wonderful festival in the midst of the Hilversum forests 🐦🌸. The day was full of inspiring performances, revealing workshops and meetings with likeminded strangers. 🌷I was reminded of all that unites us, our search for belonging, being rooted in yourself and the yearning to be seen and heard for who you truly are - which is also what my poem was about❤️. I am grateful to have shared the stage with and met so many amazing humans. A big thanks to all who made yesterday possible! Noor Cornelissen Samar Nafie Leila Prnjavorac Rooted #worldrefugeeday

We didn't think the line-up of the Rooted Festival could get much better... but it just did! We are very happy to announce that Dilan Yurdakul, actress and writer, is also joining us and will be giving a very special performance during the opening of the Rooted Festival. Also Jack Westerlaken from studio New West will be giving us a first insight into their brand new documentary on the building of a new neighborhood in Vlaardingen for 1000 people who have fled Ukraine. Moderated by Chris Keulemans, they'll engage in a discussion on how refugee housing is organized in The Netherlands. And to top it off, Weini Woldu, systemic transcultural therapist from Expertisecentrum Transculturele Therapie, will be joining our panel discussion (together with Esmah Lahlah, Frank Candel and Elena Ponzoni) on identity, belonging and the building of a collective home. You don't want to miss this. Tickets available now on www.rootedfestival.nl
