In het Rijksmuseum is Operatie Nachtwacht nog altijd in volle gang. Het Rijksmuseum startte in 2019 met Operatie Nachtwacht het meest omvangrijke onderzoek naar Rembrandts bekendste werk ooit. De Nachtwacht is inmiddels bijna 400 jaar oud en verdient de best mogelijke zorg zodat mensen er ook in de toekomst van kunnen blijven genieten.    Voor de belangrijke partners, die Operatie Nachtwacht vanaf de start mogelijk maken, heeft het Rijksmuseum bij de start van deze nieuwe fase een bijzonder moment gecreëerd. Hoofdpartner AkzoNobel, diverse fondsen en particuliere schenkers via het Rijksmuseum Fonds hebben hun handtekening gezet op een sticker die op het backingboard aan de achterkant van het nieuwe spanraam van het schilderij is geplakt. Meet the leading lady of flower still lifes: Rachel Ruysch 🌺🌼🌸   Rachel Ruysch grew up in a house full of plants and flowers. Her father was a famous botanist. At the age of 15 she became a student of a still life painter, which was very unusual for a girl at that time. Vandaag is het 1 juli, Keti Koti, een dag om de afschaffing van de trans-Atlantische slavenhandel in het Nederlandse Koninkrijk te herdenken en te vieren. Op 1 juli 1863 schafte Nederland de slavernij officieel af in Suriname en de voormalige Nederlandse Antillen.   Onze postereditie van de tentoonstelling Slavernij, gemaakt in samenwerking met de Verenigde Naties, is eenmalig te zien op het Museumplein. De tentoonstelling toont foto’s van objecten, archiefmateriaal en mondelinge bronnen. Via QR-codes kun je luisteren naar tien Nederlanders die spreken over hun persoonlijke relatie met de personen uit de tentoonstelling. 🚨https://lnkd.in/efR6UnnY

The Rijksmuseum is thrilled to announce the launch of its annual Artist in Residence programme for 2025. We are seeking a solo artist with a passion for research-based projects that engage with the museum's rich collections, history, and activities. Take a dive into the story of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita, a talented Dutch-Jewish artist best known for his bizarre, caricatured creatures with human features. He was also the teacher of the famous M.C. Escher. ✏️ At the end of WWII in 1944, Escher discovered that De Mesquita and his family had been arrested and deported. He found the studio abandoned, with etchings crushed under German boots—a heartbreaking relic of the tragedy. 💔 This story is part of the exhibition 'Looted,' a collaboration between the Rijksmuseum and the Jewish Cultural Quarter. Exploring the Rijksmuseum is a big adventure. For blind and visually impaired visitors, this can be quite a challenge. Now there is an exciting new way to explore the museum: an audio-tactile model!   Imagine a detailed model of the Rijksmuseum that you can touch and listen to. This innovative model features foldable floors and audio points that explain what can be seen.   The model was initiated and created by Hannes Wallrafen. A former photographer who exhibited in the Rijksmuseum himself, Hannes founded Stichting Geluid in Zicht after losing his own vision. With his audio models, he makes museums more accessible for blind and visually impaired people.   The audio-tactile model was financially supported by the Bartimeus Fund.

Take a break from the hectic city this summer and find a moment of quiet and calmness in the gardens of the Rijksmuseum. For the annual Rijksmuseum sculpture exhibition, several works by Korean artist Lee Ufan are on view. Lee Ufan is a co-founder of the Japanese avant-garde art movement Mono-ha (School of Things), whose exponents use raw materials and elements such as stone, iron and water to explore the relationship between objects and space. Lee Ufan in the Rijksmuseum Gardens runs from 28 May to 27 October 2024. Entrance to the gardens is free. Rowena Boelens & Myrthe Steltenpool, Ciska Daalder en Mees Blom zijn de winnaars van Rijksmuseum Junior Fellowship 2024, de jaarlijkse prijs voor het beste profielwerkstuk door middelbare scholieren, georganiseerd door het Rijksmuseum en de NTR. Dit jaar werden 68 werkstukken ingestuurd.   Afgelopen zaterdag werden de winnaars bekend gemaakt door historicus, presentator en schrijver Astrid Sy tijdens een feestelijke uitreiking in het Rijksmuseum. De winnaars ontvangen een studiebeurs van € 1.500.    Astrid Sy, juryvoorzitter Rijksmuseum Junior Fellowship: “Ook dit jaar waren de profielwerkstukken van de finalisten van hoog niveau. De enorme toewijding, originaliteit, eigen stijl en creativiteit die ieder werkstuk toonde, maakten het voor de jury weer een plezier om te lezen.”
