Research institute for quantum computing & quantum internet

Over ons

At QuTech, we work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential. Our mission: to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an inherently safe quantum internet, based on the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics. Established by TU Delft and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research TNO, the focus at QuTech currently covers nearly all facets of quantum computing, including theoretical physics, new materials, quantum coding, and the actual development of (components of) a quantum computer.

💡 During a visit by VNO-NCW president Ingrid Thijssen, strategic policy advisor Reineke Timmermans, and spokesperson Kees Bakhuis to QuTech and several Delft quantum technology companies, discussions were held on how to create economic impact through scientific excellence in the field of quantum technology. 🗣️ The delegation spoke with, among others, QuTech's Research Director Lieven Vandersypen and Director of Business Development Kees Eijkel, Director Research Programmes & IP Pieter de Witte of Quantum Delta NL and CEO's Ingrid Romijn of Q*BIRD B.V. and Niels Bultink of Qblox. 🤝 It was a broad discussion about the National Technology Strategy, the position of the Netherlands in the global field of quantum technology research, the strength of the Dutch quantum ecosystem, the necessary investments to allow these companies to continue to grow, the structure of funding, the relationship with investors such as Invest-NL and collaboration with other countries. 🚀 Afterward, Ingrid Thijssen commented: "It was great to experience the energy and activity here in Delft firsthand and to see how, with a mission-driven university institute like QuTech, the Netherlands can be leading and create deeptech enterprises and jobs. Here you see how the university and a unique ecosystem together are contributing to the earning power of our country."

🤝 We welcome the Quantum Matter and AI (QMAI) group led by Eliška Greplová to QuTech! 💡 The QMAI group is working at the intersection of quantum computing, artificial intelligence and condensed matter physics. Their main research interests include: - Development of new algorithmic methods that improve existing quantum computing experiments and testing them experimentally with collaborators. - Using AI to better understand complex phenomena in condensed matter physics and then translate this understanding into applications in quantum computing. - Figuring out how to implement complex emergent condensed matter phenomena with easy to engineer quantum devices bringing forward new ideas for encoding and manipulating quantum information. 🤩 We look forward to our collaboration!
