One of the best decisions I've ever made this year was joining the PyData Amsterdam committee.

A big thank-you to all the onsite conference volunteers this year, who made the event a wonderful one, and most importantly, we had a great time ourselves. Now, I’ve got my fingers crossed that the on-demand videos will be out asap so I can catch up on the talks I missed and rewatch the ones I found insightful during the conf.
As a local chapter and a fully volunteer-run team, commitment and dedication are key, with passion being the greatest driving force. Since April this year, we meet once a month, usually in the evenings, to prep for the conference and discuss monthly meet-ups. We genuinely enjoy working together - had lots of fun, shared laughter, and yes, some awkward moments (including our elevator 🛗 series,,,, definitely to be continued 😅).
Being the only non-data scientist/engineer/analyst in this group, I felt completely comfortable and enjoyed working with everyone. No matter what happens, it always ends in laughter, and we've got ourselves backed 🙌. I’m also grateful for connecting with likeminded people through the conf. and meetups - had great & fun chats!
The reason I got to know PyData at the first place is through the recorded talks via its YouTube channel. I watched a few 23' talks back then, one was about practical use cases of how ML models are implemented in real-world business contexts, and I found it super insightful.
Organizing a conference for over 900 attendees is no small feat, but with this team, it felt easy and joyful. We are problem-focused, solution-driven, direct, to the point and get things done, and we back each other up, and most importantly, we love our community! We don't have fancy tools (as you know, it's a volunteer-run team) - just google sheets, docs, slack, and a What'sApp group to manage comms and track tasks & to-dos, and I brought in the Miro board after joining, to add some creativities 🎨, and with these simple tools, we got things done,,, quite efficiently ✌️.
Before the conference, there were some uncertainties - mainly about ticket sales and sponsor support, which are critical to sustain and operate the event. Thankfully, everything went smoothly, and in reality, beyond what's expected. And we were lucky enough to have three sunny ☀️ days!
Love this group & community, from the heart 🫶
