About a fortnight ago, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the JuliaCon 2024 and PyData Eindhoven event in Eindhoven, surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the field. As part of the crew we ensured schedules were tight and equipment was ready, I found myself deeply immersed in a world of data and innovation. The event was nothing short of pristine, and I had the privilege of connecting with inspiring individuals like Samina Trachier and Gareth Thomas. Their enthusiasm and down-to-earth nature were contagious, and I learned invaluable lessons in project management and handling unforeseen setbacks. Not forgetting the rest who made this an enjoyable experience Jérôme Carnis, Dmitry Bagaev just to name a few. A heartfelt thanks to Jheronimus Academy of Data Science for providing such an enriching experience. Being among game-changers in the industry was truly unforgettable. #JuliaCon2024 #Pydata #Eindhoven

We're happy that we were able to sponsor the PyData Eindhoven 2024 event by donating 2 organizers Koen Vossen and Koen de Raad! ⚽
I wanted to share that I'm very proud of JuliaCon 2024 and PyData Eindhoven 2024 that we organized at the Philips Stadium last week. 🏟️ From my perspective as an organizer and sports enthusiast, it was amazing and one of the cooler things I got to be part of over the past years. Some personal highlights: - We had a daycare service. - There was a PySport track that combined data and sports. - The food was great. - High-quality talks. - 🏆 I got to open the Wednesday on the mainstage and was allowed to hold the Eredivisie trophy. Something I'll never forget. - We witnessed the very rare event of not having grass in the stadium and got some of the championship grass as a present! - We had an awesome team of > 50 volunteers - About 800 people attended - Got our Eyedle logo all around the stadium led boarding 🤩 I wanted to thank all the organizers, volunteers, speakers and sponsors involved in making this a reality. We couldn’t have done this without you. Kudos to PyData Eindhoven for organizing a fantastic event last week and bringing together so many software professionals in Eindhoven. I was thrilled to have numerous insightful conversations at the Intel booth and during our talk on #AIPC. We covered key topics such as: - The benefit of running AI locally: protecting your private data and avoiding reliance on third parties. - How to implement local AI: using OpenVINO, an open-source AI toolkit that enables low-latency and low-memory consumption inference for GenAI Apps on #AIPC. Last week, I attended PyData Eindhoven 2024 at the PSV stadium 🏟️. As expected, the talks on open-source development in Python for data science and AI were fantastic. Contrary to my expectations, there was no grass on the field! Highlights for me included: 🌟 Xebia demonstrated the levels of RAG, showing how LLM models are augmented with domain information and common pitfalls. 🌟 CM.com followed up with good metrics to evaluate the plethora of LLM models available, and how to pick the best one for your use case. 🌟 acmetric presented two talks: one on switchback design for market experiments, focusing on measuring small effects and preventing interference. Succeeded by Marc Nientker on causal forecasting. He discussed how combining econometric concepts with machine learning addresses unobserved confounders, improving accuracy in retail price setting context. Excited to apply these techniques in new use cases for Celonis or operations research projects with our clients! 🚀🔍

What an inspiring day at the PyData Conference in Eindhoven last Thursday, July 11! It was great to reconnect with the local AI community and mingle with peers. Here are my top 3 takeaways: *Supercharging LLMs with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)* The session on RAG was a deep dive into how this technique is revolutionizing the application of Large Language Models (LLMs). By combining retrieval methods like vector search with LLMs, RAG addresses key issues such as hallucinations and restricted access to internal data. This technique enables the generation of more accurate, cite-able responses by pulling in additional information from diverse data types. *Combining ML and Econometrics for Accurate Causal Forecasting* Another insightful session tackled the challenge of unobserved confounders in causal forecasting. By integrating advanced Econometrics techniques with state-of-the-art Machine Learning (ML) methods, the presented approach enhances causal inference accuracy. This hybrid solution is especially crucial for decision-making processes like retail pricing, where understanding the true causal effects is vital. *The Future of Local AI with AI PCs and OpenVINO Toolkit* Intel introduced an AI PC, equipped with CPU, GPU, and NPU, capable of running Generative AI in seconds, not hours. This setup, coupled with the OpenVINO Toolkit, optimizes and deploys deep learning models locally, addressing common cloud AI issues like data privacy, high latency, and cloud dependency. A big thank you to the organizers and speakers! Looking forward to applying these insights and innovations in our projects. 🌟 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐲𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐄𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧 2024 🌟 Last week our talented Data Scientist, Dario Oreč, attended the PyData Eindhoven 2024 conference at the iconic Philips Stadium. This event, co-hosted with JuliaCon 2024, brought together a vibrant community of data enthusiasts, experts, and innovators. From our perspective, the most important contributions came from the insightful sessions led by experts like Ferdinand Schenck, and Marc Nientker . Discussions on Explainable AI, remote sensing innovations, and introduction of novel approaches to disentangle causal effects—a critical aspect for accurate decision-making in sectors like retail pricing—set the tone for a conference focused on both cutting-edge technology and practical applications. Dario had the opportunity to connect with industry experts, which gave us many exciting impressions that will undoubtedly inspire our future projects. Reflecting on the topic of machine learning in a business context, it is evident that while a high level of maturity has been achieved, there remains an ongoing need for optimization and addressing challenges. Even in 2024, machine learning and AI applications are not guaranteed to succeed effortlessly. To use them profitably, specific expert knowledge about the methods used and their pitfalls and backdoors is essential. Feel free to talk to us about your projects or current challenges in the fields of ML and AI. #PyData #Eindhoven2024 #MachineLearning #ExplainableAI

What an amazing experience it was attending the PyData Eindhoven conference at the Philips Stadium PSV! 🏟️ The event focused on Data Science and included a fascinating tour of the stadium and its history. I was thrilled to run into some incredible people, Yannic and Animesh who were part of the joint Python Bootcamp I recently attended, organized by ASML and Accenture the Netherlands. The speeches were incredibly insightful, especially the one on Machine Learning and Python by Pedro Tabacof. He shared an intriguing story about how he lost €1000 betting on CS GO using ML and Python—a cautionary tale with valuable lessons. The day concluded with an amazing show by Sam Aaron about Sonic Pi, a free music tool for education and professionals. His talk covered the basics and technical aspects of live coding, complete with live demonstrations. It was truly spectacular to see coding and music come together! A BIG thank you to Intel Corporation for sponsoring my tickets for the conference. Your support made this unforgettable experience possible! 🙏 #PyData #DataScience #MachineLearning #Python #SonicPi #LiveCoding #Networking #TechCommunity
