After-school courses for Amsterdam girls & teens, inspiring bravery & leadership with community impact. #BuildMakeBe

Over ons

Project Fearless is a space for any girl* in Amsterdam and Rotterdam aged 9-14 to get hands-on, break stereotypes, use their voice and create an impact. From Skateboarding to Entrepreneurship, our one-of-a-kind after-school courses encourage girls to explore out of their comfort zones, and to try, fail, brush themselves off and try again! We exist to equip girls with the tools and confidence to succeed on their terms in any aspect of their lives, by plugging the gaps currently left by society. Creating breathing room to shed the labels that are often placed on them, so girls and those who identify with the girl experience can truly be themselves. Since Project Fearless was founded in 2019, we’ve welcomed over 1510 girls, kids and teens to our programs. Our programs create a supportive, inclusive environment, with room for everyone’s voices and ideas. Encouraging kids to find fun and freedom in exploring new and existing passions and interests, leaving the pressures of perfectionism behind. Where they can step inside, shed who they think they “should be”, and figure out who they are instead. Where they can be coached by accessible role models (the see them, be them effect is real!) and learn to celebrate each other, without fear of their own success being limited. By empowering girls to define how they see themselves from scratch, we will, in turn, rewrite how the world views girls. We are Project Fearless. Welcome! www.projectfearless.org @project.fearless *We're creating a safe and inclusive community at Project Fearless. We welcome girls aged 9-14 to join our programs, including gender-fluid and polygender people, as well as kids who are discovering their identity.

Happy Fearless Friday! Today, we’re featuring lifestyle photographer Adela Bohackova 📸 Adela focuses her photography on weddings, love stories and families ❤️ She’s wild at heart and adventurous — in 2018, she packed all her things and did a 4-month road trip with just her dog 🐶🚗 she also loves being by herself in a new city, because she can watch life happen around her, without being part of the bustle. In her free time, Adela enjoys being with her dog and her partner, watching movies and reading books 📚 Here’s what being fearless means to Adela: “To me, being fearless means facing what scares you, getting outside the blurry lines of a comfort zone. It means following your heart, instead of your head.” 📷 cred: click.photovisuals

Throwback to summer 2020 and our first-ever Skate & Create camp 🛹🎨 For 5 days, we skated, ate popsicles, tie-dyed tees, and worked on our skate zine with a page designed by every girl. ➡️ For ages 9-12, we're running 5 days of skating and creating again this summer! There’s still time to sign up — here’s the link: https://lnkd.in/eDEi7Tg4 Like always, we have scholarships available. No questions asked, just select that option when you check out 🤗

Celebrating women who change the world 🌍 Jenny Dorsey is a professional chef, educator and food politics scholar who’s based in New York City 🗽 She uses her skill and creativity to comment on society and the world around us, meaning the food and environments she creates can make people uncomfortable… and that's the point. Jenny also uses augmented and virtual reality to make her work on social issues more impactful, which led to creating her non-profit Studio ATAO. “I don't plan on being complicit with how things are; I want to change the world with my art, one honest conversation at a time.”

Run Club summer highlights 😎 👟 16 kids joined our summer Run Club for free — shout-out and big thanks to our course sponsors The Athlete's Foot! 🍊 We loved the amazing treasure hunt through Beatrixpark by Coach Gen, with cute rhyming clues and lots of running to find donuts, gluten-free cookies and oranges… 🎈… and our water balloon relay, where one of the balloons broke at the start but the kids just kept going with the wet balloon shreds. Never give up 😆 👟 We’ll finish the season with a 5K for our whole Run Club crew, running at their own pace and cheering each other along the way 🎉

We have another wonderful addition to our Fearless Friday series: Yasmine Amr! 🎉 Yasmine is the founder of Boop, an outlet disrupting the beauty & wellness industry's perception of waste and keeping products out of landfill ♻️ Boop sources items directly from brands when they’ve made too many, discontinued items, or if the products don't look perfect on the outside (think wonky labels and missing boxes) 💄 Boop lets customers buy these items, rather than the products ending up destroyed 💡 In her free time, Yasmine loves being with her two daughters and family, and doing Pilates. Here’s what being fearless means to Yasmine: “Being fearless means not worrying too much about failures. ‘No’ is part of the process!”

💥 Check out the highlights from our latest Football season in A’dam Nieuw-West: ⚽ 24 kids ages 9-14 joined us, and our coaching team was all from the local community ⚽ The kids worked on their stamina, endurance and conditioning, plus their positioning on the field ⚽ We had clouds, sunshine, drizzle and big rain storms… but our Football crew played through it all! ⚽ This season was the first time we had a football boots “library”, which is important to us at PF: no-one feels left out if they don’t already have boots, and families don’t have to buy new boots if they don’t want to ⚽ One of our favourite moments was when two kids from our 12-14-year-old Football crew said they wanted to step up and help coach the younger kids. Working on their leadership skills, and becoming accessible role models for our younger Fearlessers!

Throwback to our 5th birthday picnic 🎉 In June, Project Fearless officially turned 5! To celebrate, we hosted a park picnic for anyone to join and share what PF has meant to them over the years. Thank you to everyone who came out to support and celebrate this amazing milestone! Now it’s onwards and upwards — we can’t wait to see where we grow next…

Earlier this month, we hosted a workshop for our Junior Coaches on  intersectionality and innovation 💭💡 Our Coaches Kimberly Donaldson, Samantha Figueroa and Pip Williamson led the teens’ discussion on: What are identity and intersectionality? How would we map out our identities? And how do all their aspects influence our interactions and leadership styles? How can we make a positive difference in our social and professional lives? How can Project Fearless keep supporting different identities and intersectionalities? It was a fascinating afternoon, in a welcoming space with room for everyone’s voices 🙌 Thank you Equals for having us!

To celebrate our 5th birthday, we’re featuring our Fearless founder: Mérida Miller 🥳 We’re throwing it back to where it all began: June 13th 2019, when Mérida first stepped onto stage and shared her vision for Project Fearless. 3 months later, our first programs started! As our Director, she wears many hats: Chief Snack Operator, program and curriculum writer, Coaches’ Coach, and Sewing & Design Coach. Before building Project Fearless, Mérida worked as an innovation and concept designer for 7.5 years. On paper, leaving that world to found Project Fearless was an unusual (and definitely fearless!) leap to make… but her wiring for human-centric design is what ties the two together. Not one to sit still, over the 8 months before she launched Project Fearless, Mérida kept busy as a baker, fitness instructor and assistant professor in sustainable fashion 🧁💪🎓 Here’s what being fearless means to Mérida: “To me, the most fearless thing you can be in this world is yourself.”
