On June 3rd, students of the Culture, Organization, and Management program had their final lecture of the Fieldwork to Future course. The lecture was held at the Goat Farm, the very location where their master’s journey began in September of last year. 🎓 The lecture was conducted in a workshop format. The session began with a warm welcome before splitting into two 90-minute workshops: In the first workshop, Patrizia Hoyer explored narratives of career identity. Students, who had conducted career interviews as part of their assignment, reflected on the role of agency in shaping their career narratives. 📚👥 In the second workshop, Maud van Merriënboer and Almina Karya Odabasi Odabasi focused on presenting research insights to non-academic audiences. Maud introduced the difference between scientific and societal impact and explained The Pyramid Principle for structuring presentations. Karya shared strategies for effective communication of research insights and tips for improving presentation performance. 📊🌟 To conclude the course, Bernhard Resch, the course coordinator, provided final tips on thesis writing and reminded everyone about the COM End-Event. This celebratory event will be held on June 30th from 16:00 to 19:00 at the VU Botanical Garden. We cordially invite all ORG staff members to join us in celebrating the achievements of our students! RSVP Yes! 🎉🌸📅 #StudentSuccess #COMProgram #CultureOrganizationandManagement #OrganizationSciences #FieldworkToFuture #CareerDevelopment #ResearchImpact #MastersJourney #AcademicLife #VUAmsterdam #ThesisWriting #Celebration

Exciting news from the Department of Organization Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam! 🎉 Congratulations to Leonore van den Ende, PhD and Alfons van Marrewijk, who, along with their transdisciplinary consortium, have been awarded €3 million by NWO (Dutch Research Council) for their work on the KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Covenant) call ‘Leren van Fysieke Experimenteeromgevingen’! 🚀 The consortium, 'EXTRA’ - From EXperiment to sustainable change: TRAnsformative methodologies for innovation and learning – led by Tamara Metze (TU Delft), is a collaboration between Delft University of Technology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), Wageningen University & Research, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, and multiple public and private partners. Despite the innovations and insights gained from living labs—collaborative spaces for testing real-world solutions—achieving long-term, systemic change has often proven difficult. The goal of EXTRA is to overcome this “pilot paradox” by amplifying the transformative power of living labs through novel insights, tools and human capacities, to enable changemakers to collaboratively make sustainable change and impact. Leonore will lead a work package, together with Alfons van Marrewijk (TU Delft, VU) and Hans Berends (VU KIN Center for Digital Innovation), focused on developing organizational interventions that facilitate the embedding and scaling of innovations for lasting impact. 🌍 Looking forward to the amazing outcomes from this initiative! #Innovation #LivingLabs #Research #SystemicChange #Collaboration #OrganizationalInterventions
NWO grant for consortium led by Tamara Metze 🎉 In search for pathways toward more sustainable futures, Metze and her team will explore how various innovations can go from experiment to mainstream and make more impact on sustainability transitions. The project ‘From EXperiment to sustainable change: TRAnsformative methodologies for Innovation and learning’ (EXTRA) seeks to overcome a persistent “pilot paradox”. 💡 In this paradox, much experimentation takes place but long-term systemic impact remains difficult. In collaboration with field labs such as The Green Village, urban living labs such as Energy Lab South-East in Amsterdam, and all sorts of citizens’ initiatives, the project aims to build a more efficient innovation ecosystem, contributing to more impactful and sustainable outcomes for both society and the environment. Happy with our new publication 'Data is no free gift! An anthropological perspective of data sharing in an inter-organizational context' in the new issue of the Journal of Business Anthropology 🎈 Interconnected organizations are increasingly urged to openly share their data to accelerate innovation and transition, though this practice is often constrained by issues of power, (dis)trust, and (un)willingness to share. In this research we theorize data sharing as a form of gift giving based on mutual ties and reciprocal relations, helping us to unpack and understand the social and cultural challenges and implications of (not) sharing data between organizations. We also found that data sharing is enabled via enclosed platforms, with limited, pre-defined membership and data, providing a safe space conducive for reciprocal exchange and a framework for future practical applications of data sharing in complex (inter)organizational settings. A special thank you to co-author Alfons van Marrewijk, JBA Editor Kasper Tang Vangkilde and to the reviewers who helped us to develop the paper. #datasharing #datagifting #marcelmauss #thegift #giftgiving #reciprocity #organizationalanthropology #organizationstudies #interorganizationalcollaboration

Yesterday I updated my colleagues on my most recent work; a research project in the birth care sector together with Jolanda Liebregts (PhD candidate on the VOICE project). In this project we are interested in regional variation in the organization of integrated (birth) care. After 35 interviews, 20 focus group meetings, 180 survey responses, 37 documents, and a number of observations, we came to the following preliminary conclusions. 💡 It does not make sense to look at organization of care alone. Because next to organizational elements (joint training, joint programs, governance etc), also the relations between organizations and people matter, as well as the content and context of care. ✅ The quality of care is not only dependent on the type of care that is provided, but also on how we organize that and who are involved in what way. Integrated care is a complex system with many interwoven aspects. ✨ Quality of care can only happen in the sweet spot between organization, relations and content& context. Our work is not done, yet! Still so many routes to explore and so many questions that need answers. Luckily Jolanda Liebregts and I make a great team 😁 What are your ideas about the organization of integrated (birth) care? #VOICE #integratedcare #birthcare #research

Here is a nice way to start your week - our new Special Issue in the journal Risk, Hazards & Crisis in Public Policy is now online and open access! 📢📢 📖 📖 https://lnkd.in/gntw55Kr This Special Issue builds on our work over the past years in the LINKS EU Project to focus on Governing the Uses of Social Media and Crowdsourcing (SMCS) in Crisis and Disaster (Risk) Management. We present an agenda-setting editorial and 7 papers, which critically explore the state of the art on SMCS uses in DRM. The authors examine how SMCS technologies can function as bridging mechanisms between public and private actors and between authorities and communities, as well as the conditions needed for strengthening institutional policies, processes, and routines for integrating and applying SMCS in crises and DRM. ⛈ 🚨 📲 Thanks to all the excellent contributors to this SI including Anne Bach Nielsen, Emmanuel Raju, Dario Landwehr, Juliette Nicolaï, Tejal Patil, Nathan Stolero, Ph.D., Sahar Elkady, Leire Labaka, Jan Verlin, Matthieu Branlat, Bruria Adini, Sten Torpan, Sten Hansson, Kati Orru, Pirjo Jukarainen, Friedrich Gabel, Lucia Savadori, Sunniva F.
