𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 🎉 Meet ‘ecoFluorecare’, the world’s first eco-friendly at-home test kit! 🌱 Say goodbye to single-use plastic cassettes 👋🏽 After filing two worldwide patents, fine-tuning biomaterials and injection moulding trials, we are honoured to incorporate our knowledge into a real test kit. Together with 迈科龙生物 Microprofit Biotech, we developed a biodegradable multiplex test for detecting COVID, Flu A&B and RSV. Fluorecare grew into a famous and reliable European test brand, selling millions of test kits. Recently, our team visited their headquarters in Shenzhen and discussed the topic of sustainability. Therefore, we are happy to launch our first product together. Our cassettes are produced from biobased materials, reduce carbon emissions and are compostable. Okos recently demonstrated in multiple validation studies that there is no difference in performance compared to standard test cassettes. With this eco-friendly twist, we now demonstrate that sustainability and diagnostics can go together! We offer ecoFluorecare for only 4.99 euros (well below the in-store price of the normal plastic version). This shows that incorporating eco-friendly components still results in competitive pricing! Currently, we have a limited stock of ecoFluorecare available on Measie. Get yours now 🫱🏽 https://lnkd.in/edXebRkS Are you interested in higher volumes of ecoFluorecare, or want to transition to our sustainable cassettes? Please message us at [email protected]. 💡 How the plastic mountain of waste from health care could be recycled. A promising technology for the future? 🌏 - Single-use health care items—everything from gloves and blood bags to surgical equipment—have become a growing environmental problem worldwide. - Disposable health care items today create enormous amounts of waste. In the best-case scenario, this waste is incinerated, but in many countries it ends up in landfills, and it can also be released into the environment. - These problems can all be solved with the new method developed by Chalmers researchers. The technology is called 'thermochemical recycling' and is based on a process called "steam cracking." It breaks down the waste by mixing it with sand at temperatures up to 800°C. The plastic molecules are then broken apart and converted into a gas, which contains building blocks for new plastic. - "Thermochemical recycling would become more beneficial with new political frameworks that create a recycling solution for our plastic-rich waste" https://lnkd.in/enfREpkY

A recent study from the Netherlands: Consumers favour bio-based alternatives over traditional fossil-based plastic bottles. How does this translate to diagnostics (direct-to-consumer)? 💡 "It showed that people clearly preferred the bio-based bottles over the conventional one. The strongest preference was for the bottle that was recognisable as bio-based. The test subjects were willing to pay up to 40 % more for the bio-based bottles." “But the high willingness of the consumers to pay a bonus for bio-based product clearly indicates that there is a demand for these alternatives.” “The plastics transition is not just a technological transition. Better understanding the buying drivers of consumers are extremely important, especially in early phase when the sustainable alternatives are still relatively expensive.” Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/eiivaMAd

Positive cases of COVID-19 on #ecoFluorecare 🦠 The coronavirus is experiencing a summer wave in Europe. The FLiRT variant of the coronavirus is causing a significant spike in the number of infections. The number of virus particles in the sewer was about six times higher last month than a year ago. In some places in the Netherlands the difference compared to last summer is even greater. #ecoFluorecare is now also available on Bol.com: https://lnkd.in/eu39_X-P

A crucial in-depth study about material usage in commercially available rapid test kits! A path towards a greener future of diagnostics ♻ 🌍 Over 2 billion LFA test kits are produced every year, adding tens of thousands of tonnes of used materials to the growing global volume of medical waste. ❕Policymakers, such as the World Health Organization, FIND, and others, are encouraged to make use of this dataset to derive target weights of individual components or full test and develop quantitative environmental sustainability targets in future Target Product Profile documents for lateral flow assays. 💡 Interesting Insights: The average weight of standard LFA housing is 4.1g per casing, with a range from 2.47g to 6.54g. The outer packaging accounted for 25% to over 88% of the total kit weight, followed by instructions and housing types. ♻ 🌿 Conclusion: The environmental impact of LFA tests is set to increase with more decentralized testing. The wide variation in component weights indicates a potential for manufacturers to reduce material usage, especially plastic. This research is a step towards more sustainable diagnostic testing. Let's push for greener, leaner LFA kits and protect our planet while ensuring public health. Great work by Maïwenn Kersaudy Kerhoas and team! ACON Biotech iHealth Labs Wondfo Getein Biotech, Inc. After a rest week, I’m back with 3 good news from the world of #LifeScience and #sustainability! (And an improved design) 🏥 Okos Diagnostics launched its eco-friendly at-home test kit. ‘ecoFluorecare’ is the world’s first eco-friendly at-home test kit, and Okos developed it with Microprofit Biotech! The first kits will detect COVID, Flu A&B, and RSV, which are some of the most common applications for rapid tests. Now, with Okos’s products, customers can choose more sustainable alternatives to the existing products on the market. 💅 L'Oréal and Debut Partner together to replace its existing cosmetics ingredients. With this collaboration, L'Oréal and Debut Biotech will develop over a dozen bio-identical ingredients. The goal is to replace many cosmetic ingredients across the many L’Oreal products by using advanced biomanufacturing techniques. Joshua Britton, CEO of Debut, highlighted how this partnership helps preserve biodiversity and contributes to a more transparent supply chain for beauty solutions. 💊 Pharmaforum's highlighted the results of prioritizing sustainability. Prioritizing sustainability in drug manufacturing is crucial for long-term growth. The pharmaceutical industry, producing over 200 million metric tonnes of CO2 annually, can significantly reduce its environmental footprint by adopting green chemistry and fusion-based technologies. These innovations not only lower costs but also improve operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. IQVIA highlighted how investments in sustainable practices are rising because they offer a competitive advantage and more innovation. And to communicate them effectively, find out my weekly tip on the carousel 😉

One of the major criticisms of rapid antigen tests (and point of care tests overall) is that they are single use and generate a lot of waste (though I’d argue much less than bottled water, soda, plastic bags, plastic utensils, and so many other items we don’t even think about). Well, here is one company trying to clean up the world and keep people healthier through rapid tests - Okos Diagnostics is building the first fully biodegradable rapid tests - moving away from plastic to something more eco friendly. Great work Okos! Sander Julian Brus
