NoPalm Ingredients employs a unique fermentation process using non-GMO proprietary yeasts combined with a patented low-capex technology. This process transforms upcycled, locally-sourced agri-food sidestreams, such as potato peels and whey permeate, into yeast oils. Feedback from customers indicates that NoPalm Ingredients’ oils are an ideal drop-in replacement for palm oil, requiring no recipe reformulation and achieving price parity. This is made possible by the use of agri-food sidestreams and an asset-light technology that is quick to scale. Additionally, the technology also boasts a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions and a 99% decrease in land use compared to traditional palm oil production.

This funding round was led by Rubio Impact Ventures, with participation from Fairtree Elevant Ventures, Oost NL, Willow Capital Investments, and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This support is a testament to our innovative approach and the critical need for sustainable alternatives in the industry. 🌎 “Palm oil is cheap, versatile, and used in about 60% of fast-moving consumer good. However, with demand rising 4% annually and 22 million extra tons needed by 2030 there is no strategy to supply this additional demand sustainably. Their mission? To revolutionize the oil and fat industry by tackling the environmental and supply chain challenges of conventional palm oil, which is found in a staggering 60% of supermarket products. 🌍🍃   Lars, a strategy consulting expert, was inspired by Jeroen's groundbreaking research at Wageningen University on yeast oils as a sustainable and circular alternative to palm oil. 📚🔬 After reading an article about this research, Lars reached out to Jeroen, and the rest is history. 🤝✨   In just two meetings, they decided to join forces. Within a year, their technology scaled from a small lab to a 2000-liter fermentation facility, supported by pilot projects with industry giants like Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever. 🏭💡   Today, NoPalm Ingredients has achieved remarkable growth. Our ingredients will revolutionize the industry, helping companies maintain product quality at price parity, while providing a sustainable supply solution.     𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 ‘𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥’ ♻️ This Tuesday, we proudly joined the Upcycled4Food Initiative, which is aimed at making upcycled food products and ingredients ‘the new normal’ for producers, supermarkets, and food service providers. 🌱🎉 Out of the collaborative effort of 50 leading organizations, amongst which Albert Heijn, Symrise AG, Unilever and Stichting Samen Tegen Voedselverspilling, the position paper ‘Upcycled Food and Ingredients’ was written, outlining a shared vision for maximizing the use of side streams in the agrifood chain. This paper delves into the challenges and opportunities within the growing market for upcycled foods and ingredients. ♻️ One of the key steps outlined in the paper has just been realized with the launch of this Upcycled4Food initiative. This initiative seeks to forge new collaborations across the supply chain, resulting in innovative products and ingredients. Our collective goal is to ensure that the production, sourcing, and supply of upcycled food products becomes the standard in the industry. ✨ We are thrilled to be part of this Foodvalley NL initiative with our yeast oils produced from food industry side streams.
