Bio-LNG Platform

This morning the first liquefied biomethane or bio-LNG was produced at Gate. Typically, sustainable biomass waste streams that do not compete with food production, as defined by the EU (RED II), are the source for biogas. This biogas is then upgraded to biomethane, injected into the existing gas grid and transported to liquefaction plants and liquefiers at LNG terminals through a system of mass balancing. The whole process is in accordance with the EU Renewable Energy Directive and certified by ISCC EU to trace the attributes of the bio-LNG and safeguard against double-claims. Attached the biomethane gas nominations from the gas grid into Gate. Annual production is estimated at 100.000 tons a year. #LNG

#LNG trends @ Gate: -the many FSRUs starting up in Europe (DE, NL, FR, IT, FI) do not yet have an impact on our send-out: 14.35 BCM in 2023 versus 14.39 in 2022, probably the highest in the EU (design was 12). Once again glad to help in keeping the lights on, heating our homes and supplying the industry. My guess is we will continue to have busy years ahead of us. - a record number of vessels called at Gate: 328 guests. -recovery of LNG as a transport fuel as prices became competitive again: a record number of 8789 trucks loaded and our dedicated small scale J3 had a record number of 151 vessels, loading close to 900.000 m3 of LNG. As EU shipping now participates in ETS one can only anticipate a further increase at this jetty. -our many projects (truckloading bay 4/5, extra send-out and especially tank 4 (picture)) to further support LNG developments. Transition is on everyone’s mind, also as LNG. Looking ahead we work on developing an additional dedicated small scale jetty 4 and potentially a multiproduct tank 5, all also with the transition in mind. The European network of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelling stations for vehicles has reached 700 stations, according to NGVA Europe: gmobility. Besides 700 LNG stations, there are 4175 CNG fueling stations for vehicles in Europe, data by the Brussels-based association shows. In February last year, the association, previously known as NGVA Europe, announced that the network reached 500 LNG stations, doubling its size in two years. Besides LNG, a growing number of these stations also offer bio-LNG produced from organic waste as more capacity is available to the market. Goed nieuws voor Nederlandse LNG-chauffeurs: het Bio-LNG Platform heeft een Nederlandse versie van NVGA's online "LNG-tanktraining voor chauffeurs gemaakt". Die is te vinden op www.ngva.eu/lngtraining/ De cursus bestaat uit verschillende modules die chauffeurs stap voor stap door het LNG-tankproces, de eigenschappen van LNG en veiligheidsmaatregelen leiden. Het doel van deze online training is om LNG-chauffeurs goed geïnstrueerd te maken voor het tanken met een LNG-truck. Dit draagt bij aan het verminderen van ongevallen, het verkorten van tanktijden en het voorkomen van downtime door onjuist handelen. Volgens de PGS 33-1.1 is de werkgever verantwoordelijk voor het opleiden van LNG-truckchauffeurs.
