YES, it’s portable. If you are traveling as a PD patient or just not home for leisure and fun, you can still use WEAKID for peritoneal dialysis. The device is continuous refreshing and continuous recirculation dialysate. The dialysate is refreshed by a cartridge that removes the toxins from the dialysate by means of sorbents. Recirculation ensures a controlled release of glucose, which keeps the glucose concentration at a constant level throughout the treatment.

Moving away from home for day-to-day normal activities you can still use our WEAKID device. This prevents high peak glucose concentrations, such as in traditional PD, that are harmful to the peritoneal membrane.

WEAKID is a small portable home dialysis device based on a new peritoneal dialysis technique. The system continuously recirculates and regenerates dialysate by use of sorbents (patented) and achieves greater blood purification than conventional peritoneal treatment. Does not require high concentrations of glucose that might damage the peritoneal membrane. With WEAKID we introduce two innovations: * the dialysate is continuously recirculated in the peritoneal cavity * the dialysate is continuously refreshed by sorbents. This will offer a more efficient removal of toxins compared to traditional PD. Our clinical study is still ongoing, after full completion we will share the performance data.

The feedback we receive from this survey will be used to improve the current design of our WEAKID peritoneal dialysis system. The survey is now in Dutch and English and will be available in Spanish and Italian language soon.

Proof of concept is shown in first-in-human trial (4 patients) at the University Medical Center Utrecht (NL). So far the outcome was positive. The clinical trial is continued at the University hospital Unimore in Modena (IT) and University hospital Sermas in Madrid (ES) in the second half of 2024.
