Wow, wow, wow! We are still glowing, full of awe by the power of this community of “the luckiest generation of African descent,” as our founder and CEO, Kemo Camara said. Because of people like you, showing up for yourself and others, our hearts are full of gratitude. Thank you for being part of the Omek Summit 2024 last Friday. It was truly a joy! ✨ “The vibe of the Omek Summit is something special, like a family reunion — you recognise a few faces and meet a bunch of new ones, all with the feeling that you are connected in some way!” Across #business, #tech, #entrepreneurship, #neurodiversity, and beyond, we must translate our experiences into a #superpower. Why now? Because we stand on the shoulders of giants, benefiting from the achievements and lessons of those who came before us. As technology evolves at an unprecedented rate, we must claim space responsibly and thoughtfully. By challenging and shifting social norms, we can be active in changing what has been acceptable so far and what must shift permanently. Ultimately, we are all part of a uniquely shared Pan-African mindset—a growing connection among people of African descent, fostering this community! This Friday at the 2024 Omek Summit, one of our industry roundtables will be hosted by LFMC at their studio, right across the walkway from Tolhuistuin. You’ll get to meet LFMC members, and learn about the incredible work this art collective has been doing to carve out a space for biculturals in the arts and creative industry 🎨✨ We spoke to Macarena Loma Yevenes, LFMC’s artistic director, to learn more about what makes LFMC’s existence so critical in today’s world 🌍 Can you tell us about LFMC’s philosophy and what makes it so important in today’s society? 🎤 As a multidisciplinary art collective, LFMC is aware that the system as it exists today only works for a select few, so we’ve set out to find a new path forward. Our goal is to help unique voices shape a more sharp, inclusive arts sector and creative industry. And while doors continue to open for those of us who have found success in the industry, we also keep the doors open to welcome those who are still trying to find their footing. Our goal is to flatten the system by ensuring that opportunities aren’t just for the lucky few and showing that the narrative of the bicultural creator is one that can no longer be overlooked. A natural outcome is that we’ve committed ourselves to working with brands and institutions who are open to exploring partnerships that prioritize this model. Our collective doesn’t have specific leaders or owners when it comes to our work . We instead have a community where everyone has a say in the decisions we make, and as a collective are able to share in the profits and success we achieve ⚖️
