Celebrating Era of the Bicultural ✨
In life, we all have our areas of privilege. One thing I will never take for granted is the family and community I was privileged to be born into. ❤️ I grew up surrounded by unconditional love, care, and respect—values that were the norm in my family and community. These values have become my greatest privileges, the foundation of who I am, and a vital life philosophy that I carry with me today: the best way to help yourself is to help others. 🌟 As we celebrate Era of the Bicultural at Omek, I can't help but reflect on my journey and the critical role these values and cultural heritages have played. As a bicultural individual of African descent who has lived in the USA, Germany, and the Netherlands for the past 20 years, I have learned to leverage my unique bicultural identity to successfully navigate my personal and professional life and build communities across three continents. 🌍 Bicultural identity is about more than exposure to multiple cultures; it's an inward journey of integrating and understanding distinct cultures within oneself. This process involves balancing and blending different cultural norms, values, and traditions into a cohesive personal narrative. When you understand and learn to leverage your bicultural identity, it becomes your superpower. 💪🏽 That's why we dedicated this year's Omek Summit to celebrating Era of the Bicultural—a time when navigating multiple cultural influences is not just a challenge but a vital part of our identity and growth. 🎉 The Summit was the result of our collective desire to connect with like-minded people and create the change we want to see. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the gathering an unforgettable and magical experience. I'm grateful for the community we've built, the safe space we've created, and the future we are creating together. 🙏🏽 Together, we are creating and empowering future transformational leaders. 🚀 Photo credit: Webster Mugavazi, Albert Stevanus, Sofia Lobo, Annalisa Swank
