The D2G project is funded by Global Resilience Partnership through the #RAINChallenge. Based on the results of the baseline study and community engagement, the dedicated and determined ToTs were trained on the following topics: 💧 Impacts of climate change and global warming on environmental services 💧 Road runoff water harvesting techniques and applications. 💧 Soil and water conservation methodologies 💧 Roadside tree growing and agroforestry 💧 Cultivation of drought-tolerant and resilient crops 💧 Pasture production using harvested road runoff 💧 Project sustainability and community ownership The training was coupled with field practical and group discussions for a better understanding and learning of the concept. The ToTs developed a roadmap on how they plan to disseminate the knowledge gained to the local communities (direct beneficiaries) within the project area. The trained ToTs are expected to train at least 42 local communities from the selected blocks within the project location. The project has a total of five blocks, as shown in the map. The ToTs and the eight-county government ward officials from the departments of Agriculture, Irrigation and livestock, roads, and Devolution, Public Participation & county administration, Environment &  Climate Change will play a key role in supporting the project’s community training and demonstrations and supervising the project's execution and monitoring. 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 🌞🌳 With climate change intensifying, agricultural workers, who form 70% of Tanzania’s workforce, are increasingly exposed to extreme heat. This is why we are exploring sustainable and cost-effective solutions to mitigate the health effects of extreme heat exposure. Using trees to create cooler, better-buffered microclimates on the farms can mitigate this increasing heat. 🌳 Through the ‘Heat Adaptation’ research project (funded by Wellcome Trust), we will research the impact of tree cover on the microclimate of farms within the Dodoma region that are currently implementing Kisiki Hai, an agroforestry practice focused on the sustainable regeneration of trees and shrubs. 🌱 These weeks we are conducting the first pilot of this research with the team: Faraja Chiwanga Richard Sambaiga Njamasi Chiwanga Peninah Murage Francesco Sambalino Femke van Woesik AUGUSTINO TEMBA Enock Makupa Gumi Abdallah Leonard M Kadege LEAD Foundation Tanzania London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London University of Dodoma University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) 🙏 Together, we are working towards a cooler future for Tanzanian farmers. 🌍💚 GOPA AFC GOPA Consulting Group #AFClimate

Joram Niemans, during his research internship at MetaMeta, conducted a study in Mbooni Sub-County using an analytical hierarchy process to refine road water harvesting techniques. By ranking various biophysical and socio-economic criteria, he developed detailed suitability maps, pinpointing optimal sites for structures like mitre drains, farm ponds, and sand dams. This method combines local and expert knowledge, proving to be an effective tool for preliminary site evaluation. This tool enhances the effectiveness of our implementations by providing a theoretical foundation and reducing the time and effort needed for fieldwork. By identifying suitable locations for water harvesting, we aim to improve the design and management of water resources efficiently. We will continue to leverage this tool to further scale our activities 💪 Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) Global Resilience Partnership Government Of Makueni County | GOPA AFC GOPA Consulting Group #GreenRoadsforWater #GR4W #RoadWaterHarvesting

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 🧼 Our recent scoping research in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Uganda, and Ethiopia reveals that women spend 1-2 hours daily on laundry, a task fraught with physical pain, social distress, and significant time consumption. We found that laundry is predominantly done by hand with basic tools, often causing skin rashes due to aggressive detergents. However, 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀, 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀. In North Bengal, India, women who tested these tools reported reduced physical strain and a significant decrease in the effort required to wash clothes. They noted that these tools prevent blisters and the need to bend or beat clothes, making laundry less painful and more efficient 👍. Our goal is to promote these tools to improve hygiene, reduce the wear and tear of clothing, and save time and water 💧. By addressing these challenges, we can provide women with better opportunities for education, personal care, and social activities 📽 Check out this video on Laundry Practices in India: https://lnkd.in/eEWUJcE8 #Laundry #WASH| GOPA Consulting Group GOPA AFC
