We are excited to announce that the DRIVE-RM consortium has been awarded the prestigious NWO Summit Grant of €37.5 million! 🎊 This consortium is led by Marianne Verhaar from Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, with key contributions from: Carlijn Bouten from Eindhoven University of Technology, Jos Malda from Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, Jeroen Bakkers from Utrecht University and Hubrecht Institute, Developmental Biology and Stem Cell Research, Clemens van Blitterswijk from Maastricht University. The project, "Driving Regenerative Medicine to Achieve Lasting Cures for Chronic Diseases," unites top scientists in regenerative biology, engineering, and medicine. Our mission is to tackle chronic diseases by enhancing the body's natural healing abilities. We will explore patient-specific regeneration processes and develop advanced implantable biomaterials with intelligent, life-like properties. Our goal is to revolutionise the treatment of damaged tissues and organs. Congratulations to the entire team! We had a series of insightful presentations, followed by a compelling keynote lecture by Laura De Laporte from DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials. The MDR Annual Meeting officially kicked off today with an inspiring opening by Carlijn Bouten! We were honored to have our keynote speaker, Takashi Hiiragi from the Hubrecht Institute, present an enlightening lecture on "The Role of Embryo-ECM and Embryo-Uterus Interactions in Early Mammalian Development." Our lineup of other speakers continued to impress with a series of interesting presentations. In addition to the talks, the poster session showcased the research from our talented participants. Exciting news! MDR researchers Clemens van Blitterswijk and Stefan Giselbrecht have contributed to a remarkable discovery. This work, led by Erik Vrij, investigates how identical twins originate from a single embryo, delving into the early stages of human development. By creating synthetic embryo structures outside the womb, the team has provided deeper insights into previously obscured biological processes. Great news from the ICMS Symposium: Our MDR PhD student Jules Boesveld won a spot to present at the event✨ During the ICMS Scientific Skills course, students had to deliver an abstract of their research under the banner of “Science communication: To the point”. The best three abstracts, judged by a panel from ICMS, were invited to give a small pitch during the ICMS annual symposium. Jules’ abstract on “Unveiling the cardiac-infarct border zone mechano-response” has won the third place! And he gave a 7-minute pitch about his research at the symposium. Congrats Jules Boesveld!
