This is a torpedo in the Tallinn harbour area. Our team was challenged by the Estonian Navy to find and image the object, which was put there intentionally for diver trainings. We successfully demonstrated our Scout 2’s capability to autonomously map the seabed in high resolution, despite turbid conditions underwater. Stay tuned for the whole story. In 2023, we piloted our high resolution optical seabed mapping technology in the North Sea's largest native oyster reef with Wageningen Marine Research! It took a few attempts, and visibility ranged from 4 m to less than 2 m, but the results are definitely amazing. As marine researcher Oscar Bos put it: 'We are very enthusiastic about the possibilities of the Scout. It could take full-coverage photos of the oyster reef in the Voordelta in 2023, allowing us to suddenly count every mussel, oyster, and starfish. This way, we can, for example, monitor changes in numbers and coverage by species in the future. The results were also available very quickly. We see great potential for this technology for our ecological research of the seabed.' Thanks for your continued trust and enthusiasm! With this technology, we give researchers the tools to make data-driven decisions about the future of marine conservation strategies, offshore wind farm design, and seabed resource extraction. Using the georeferenced photomosaics collected by our Scout 1 underwater robot, we demonstrated 5.4X better data accuracy while emissions were lower than the established method. It's almost time for the second on-site week of the NATO - Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) in wonderful Estonia with Tehnopol! Our technology produces uniquely clear, high resolution images of the seafloor. We're exploring how this can be used to protect critical underwater infrastructure and identify anomalies on the seabed. Looking forward to the next few months!
