  • NADD hosted a “werkbezoek” on 9 July together with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and LI-MA to draw attention to the precarity of digital culture archives, and the importance of institutions like LI-MA for preserving them.

• For those who have not yet signed the petition, wait no longer! Save The Grey Space in the Middle, a vital part of The Hague's contemporary art and cultural scene. We sincerely hope that the municipality will review its plans 🙏 Please sign the petition 👇

Now that the negative advise for structural funding (2025-2028) from the municipality of The Hague sunk in, we ask for your support. We believe that The Grey Space has become a vital cultural space and social hub. And that we form a unique bridge between day- and nightculture in the centre of The Hague. We have created a petition to urge the municipality to not follow the advice and to make sure that The Grey Space can continue to connect, build, grow and pioneer for all of us. Please sign (and share) our petition to help secure the future of The Grey Space!

  • 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄! The exhibition 𝘠𝘦𝘴, 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘉𝘦 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 by Dutch performance and video artist Lydia Schouten (*1948) at ROZENSTRAAT is going into its final days. On July 7, 2024, the exhibition closes its doors for the last time, and as an avid media art enthusiast, you would not want to miss it. “𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦. 𝘛𝘰 𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘵 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴.” 𝘠𝘦𝘴, 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘉𝘦 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 reflects on the artist’s impressive body of work, developed over nearly 50 years. In an experiential video installation, the project space skillfully merges the artist’s past and present, capturing its power and relevance. Guided by themes surrounding contact, loneliness, and eroticism, Schouten positions herself as a woman artist whose works tackle gender inequality and rigid social norms. On display are some of her most impactful and provocative works, including 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘦𝘹 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 (1978), 𝘚𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦 (1979), and 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘬 (1980). 👉 Do you want to see and learn more about Schouten? • We are happy to announce director Gaby Wijers’ participation in the closing panel of the international symposium How do you do it? Transmitting Embodied Knowledge across Generations in Contemporary Art Conservation, at HAWK - University of Applied Science and Arts in Hildesheim today. LI-MA is always researching new ways of conservation and knowledge transfer. Taking care of and how to transfer legacy was the theme of our latest Transformation Digital Art Symposium. Documentation and re-interpretation is an essential part of our research. All reinstallations and re-interpretations suggest translation and being faithful to the original work. We are actively engaging in the construction and reconstruction of the artworks, based on our understanding of the work and preservation ethics. Embodied knowledge is an essential part of this, performing the archive too. 👉 Learn more about preservation: https://lnkd.in/evxDYr7w 📸 Transformation Digital Art, Sanneke Huisman (left) and Gaby Wijers (right). We are saddened and shocked to learn that The Grey Space in the Middle has received a negative advice from the municipality of The Hague for its future funding. Searching for words while we are speechless as The Grey Space has received a negative advise for structural funding (2025-2028) from the municipality of The Hague, we feel the need to send out a message. This is a set back, obviously. We strongly believe The Grey Space matters and contributes to an open, healthy and diverse cultural scene in The Hague. With the entire team of The Grey Space, we choose to not give up our ambition just of yet. There's work to be done, and you can help us by expressing your support to, or appreciation of, The Grey Space at [email protected]. 🙏 💛
