Kipster’s start in the U.S. is thanks to our partnership with Kroger to bring 'carbon-neutral' and Certified Humane® eggs to its customers around the country. A bold and visionary move by Kroger leadership to invest in a sustainable, cage-free and humane egg farming system. In partnership with MPS Egg Farms, the Kipster farm in North Manchester, IN, has daylight and enrichment filled interior gardens, outdoor roaming spaces, chicken feed made from upcycled food and powered by solar panels. https://lnkd.in/geDZZfZP

Great news! The Kipster hens are free to roam the outside gardens again. "Kipster, which claims to be “the first carbon-neutral” egg hatchery in the world, will also be the first to sell eggs in the U.S. using a new kind of technology, one that aims to improve animal welfare for chickens. In-ovo sexing technology enables egg producers to identify the sex of the chicken embryo before hatching." Correction: Kipster is an egg farm and not a hatchery. Also, if the technology was used to sex the hatching eggs in the fall, as the article claims, then it takes at least over 20-25 weeks before the table eggs reach the retail shelf. People who buy Kipster's certified carbon neutral eggs at Kroger and Kroger owned stores such as Ralphs Grocery Company and King Soopers/City Market, support the below cookstove project in Burkina Faso. Kipster reduces the egg's carbon footprint significantly by feeding the chickens a special feed made from surplus upcycled food, solar panels on the hen houses power the farm, and chicken litter is dried and reused as fertilizer.
