Last week, the Namibian Agronomic Board (NAB) hosted the National Agronomy and Horticulture Awards (NAHA) during which participants were recognised for their excellent work in various categories 👨🌾 👩🌾 Kelpies Michael "Maik" Mwinga and Elizabeth pawa Nandjaya were present, representing Kelp Blue and celebrating the important contributions of different people involved in Namibia's agronomy and horticulture industries. A special congratulations to our two Namibian Ambassador Farmers. Congratulations to AvaGro for winning the 'Outstanding Horticulture Innovator Producer of the Year 2024' and congratulations to Green Crisp for winning 'Outstanding Horticulture Producer of the Year 2024'. Last week, we got the results back from our trial with Ambassador Farmer La Junquera Farm in Spain on their almond trees. Impressive results! La Junquera tested three plots—one without fertilizer, one with fish fertilizer, and one with StimBlue , our macrocystis seaweed biostimulant, each on 2 hectares. On Wednesday, we hosted the first webinar of the series "Voices of the Field", a webinar series featuring farmers, research universities, multinationals and more discussing the main blockers to scale regenerative agricultural practices. This webinar featured Boris Spassky, co-founder of GreenPods (regen ag nut-farm with locations in France and Spain), Valentin Pitiot (Agronomist Lead at Kelp Blue) and Anouk Bosman (Marketing Lead at Kelp Blue). A big thanks to them. In a nutshell, we discussed the urgency of scaling to regenerative practices; Boris shared his personal journey from small pilot projects to a fully integrated regenerative system on his farm. He highlighted the challenges and benefits of scaling, and the external pressures driving the need for rapid expansion. We discussed the challenges in scaling, focusing on financial hurdles, how funding was raised, and the difficulty of hiring skilled workers in regenerative agriculture. Curious to see the webinar? Our barley field trial results are in from an accredited field trial agency [2/63 - 2024 results] 🌾 We've been trialing the results of StimBlue , our macrocystis pyrifera based biostimulant, on barley in Serbia between April and August 2024. The results are significant. StimBlue was benchmarked against a control group and a leading biostimulant competitor made of Ecklonia Maxima, showing clear improvements in both the yield per hectare and size of the grains. Key findings: 🥇 Increased yield: Applying StimBlue at 2L/ha and 4L/ha yielded an increase of 14% ( $108/ha)* and 30% ( 225$/ha)* compared to competitor. 🥇 Bigger grains: At harvest, plots treated with StimBlue consistently showed a higher thousand kernel weight for the different trials, leading to better yield outcomes, more robust plants, and avoidance of over-planting (cost-saving). StimBlue at 2L/ha outperformed the control and competitor by 3% for the thousand kernel weight, expressed in grams. 👉 Want to read the full report? Our strawberry field trial results are in from an accredited field trial agency [1/63 - 2024 results] 🍓 We've been trialing the results of StimBlue , our macrocystis pyrifera based biostimulant, on strawberries in Poland between February and August 2024. The results are significant, showing clear improvements in both the quantity and quality of the crop compared to a control group AND a leading competitor (species: Ascophyllum Nodosum). Key findings: 🥇 Increased yield: Applying StimBlue at 4L/ha application offered a 22% (!) increase ( $2,950/ha) 🥇 More marketable and stronger fruits: The 4L/ha application outperformed the control by 21% in the number of fruits and by 13% over the competitor. 🥇 Better quality: The quality of strawberries, as measured by Brix degree (a key indicator of sweetness), improved by 19% with the 2L/ha and 4L/ha StimBlue treatments compared to the control, and by 18% over the competitor. 👉 Want to read the full report? Did you spot the green jackets from Kelp Blue at the Regenerative Agriculture Summit Series this week? This year, we played a role as connector between farmers and multinationals, helping drive the conversation on transitioning to sustainable practices 🌱 This was done through engaging conversations at our booth with farmers Anton Yarotsky, Abigail from Eastrop Farm UK, Emanuele Cazzola, with multinationals The HEINEKEN Company, Bonduelle with distributors Danish Agro, and with many more. Conversations continued during our networking drinks in the evening, and during our roundtables discussing how multinationals can incentivize farmers to adopt regenerative methods. Big thanks to some of our ambassador farmers, Michael Kavanagh from The Green Farm Collective and Thompson Farm, and Boris Spassky, co-founder of GreenPods for their insights and participation. Some interesting outcomes: 📝 It's essential for farmers to take the lead in educating one another, sharing practical insights on what works and what doesn’t in the field. 📝 Farmers should be positioned at the forefront of this transition, as they are the ones with hands-on experience and a deep understanding of sustainable practices. 📝 A significant gap remains in how multinationals engage with farmers—there's a need for them to visit farms more frequently to truly understand the processes and challenges faced on the ground.
