Our software creates the perfect environment in the InsectoCage for all life stages of the black soldier fly (BSF) day in and day out. It does this using temperature and humidity sensors to detect the life stage of the larvae and adjust the climate accordingly. Adaptive Climate Control: For young larvae, it maintains a warm and moist environment to keep their feed fresh. As the larvae begin to pupate, it creates a dryer and cooler climate, ensuring optimal conditions for pupation. This advanced control ensures an ideal environment for high fecundity flies! We love the sight of a large quantity of eggs in a collector and couldn’t resist sharing our latest record: 59 grams in a single egg collector and 342 grams from the whole cage. Admittedly, this wasn’t the yield from a single day, but rather 1.5 days over the weekend—still well above our target of 200 grams per day. #eggs #BSFreproduction #InsectoCage

While some of our team members attended IFW 2024, those who stayed behind worked on the dark cage airflow. Our goal is to minimize parts and running costs in our designs. With a few strategically placed manipulations, we managed to reduce the recirculation rate per dark cage. Since a few weeks, we have a new member in the engineering team, Niels de Jong. With over 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering, he is a walking engineering encyclopedia. Throughout his career, he has seen various constructing and manufacturing processes, enabling him to design parts that are easier to install and more efficient to produce. This expertise supports our mission of bringing down the price of BSF-eggs.

Our goal was to minimize steps and create a straightforward solution for egg production. This mindset allowed us to eliminate the need for attractants, sieving, and dosing pupae in our breeding process. The InsectoCage operates with just 3 simple steps: 🔹 Setup: Each cage contains 6 stacks of trays with larvae. 🔹 Weekly Routine: Once a week, replace the oldest stack with a fresh batch of feed and 5-9 day old larvae. 🔹 Maintenance: On the same day, remove the dead flies from the light cage. That’s it!
