🌍❗Great news! We are excited to share ILX’s Annual Sustainability Report for 2023. This year has been pivotal in accelerating sustainable finance toward Emerging Markets (EMs). By investing in Emerging Markets alongside MDBs and DFIs, ILX is unlocking new development finance opportunities. Leveraging the capacities and resources of these institutions, we can effectively identify, measure, and report the intended impact of each investment, providing detailed metrics to our investors. Here are some of the highlights:  1️⃣ By 2023, ILX allocated nearly two-thirds of its committed capital across diverse EM sectors, with 60% focused on climate finance. Many of these investments supported companies' efforts to transition away from high-emitting activities. Moreover, in the run-up to COP28, ILX committed to achieving net-zero emissions. 2️⃣ Our first fully-fledged Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) disclosure showcases the rigorous approach to managing climate-related risks and opportunities. 3️⃣ We are continuously actively engaging with peers, networking organizations, and the EU Commission to enhance the usability of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) regime for EM-focused managers. 🤝 Excited to be able to contribute to Africa's efforts to increase financial inclusion, by partnering alongside IFC - International Finance Corporation to help fund TerraPay and its mission to make sending money home easier and cheaper. This funding will help TerraPay expand its network, reduce remittance fees, and ensure faster, more reliable transactions across Africa. It will also increase ILX's portfolio in the continent. This collaboration will empower individuals and small businesses, contributing to the much-needed economic development to be able to close the SDG gap. 🗞🌍 At a time when sustainable development and climate finance investments are more critical than ever, the Global Emerging Markets Risk Database Consortium’s recent effort to increase transparency by publishing credit recovery statistics is a key milestone. The data shows that development finance in emerging markets has a stable and strong credit performance, with low defaults and high recovery rates. This strengthens the crucial role of MDBs and DFIs in providing long-term financing to private-sector projects across these regions. It’s time to demystify the development finance asset class and mobilise private capital into emerging markets. 🚀 Delighted to have actively participated from Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC)’s event at London Climate Action Week (#LondonClimateActionWeek) alongside my colleague and climate specialist, Victoria Walker. The event showcased the growing momentum around the role of International Financial Institutions (IFIs) in channeling additional capital to finance climate solutions in emerging markets. A special thanks to the organizers and the NZIF 2.0 leads Valentina Ramírez, CFA, Adrian Fenton, PhD, Misa Andriamihaja for releasing immensely helpful asset-specific net zero guidance and to Leo Donnachie for contributing to the much relevant policy discussions at the EU level. Highlights from the event included remarks from International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Faith Birol, who underscored the urgent need to accelerate investments in clean energy in emerging markets and to scale up IFI’s capacity to do so. This, against the backdrop of last year, on which these markets (which represent two-thirds of the global population) received only 15% of the USD 2 trillion invested in renewables and grids.
