The most prestigious competition is about to kick off again!    With the help of the Euro Club Index, Hypercube has once more conducted 10,000 simulations to assess the chances of winning the title, finishing in the top four, and facing relegation.   Manchester City stands head and shoulders above the rest, making it very challenging for Liverpool and Arsenal to wrest the title from Pep Guardiola's team. Tonight marks the start of the 2024/2025 Eredivisie season, with FC Groningen facing NAC Breda in the opening match. Both return to the Eredivisie after earning promotion last season, along with fellow promoted club Willem II. With these teams back in the league, the Eredivisie now features clubs with higher average attendances than in recent seasons. This raises the question: Could the Eredivisie set a new attendance record?   We've modeled the expected attendance for each club this season and compared it to the actual numbers since 2007. Our simulations predict a total attendance of over 6.0 million visitors throughout the regular season (excluding playoffs). This would be the highest attendance since the 2012/2013 season. However, in 2008/2009, the total attendance reached a slightly higher 6.1 million.   It will be exciting to see if Dutch fans can surpass this number! #Eredivisie #MatchAttendance

After a fantastic first month, she’s currently enjoying some well-deserved time off in ... Paris of course! Her Master’s degree in Data Science will be invaluable as she works on our sports rankings and mobility projects. Dany van Spijker: Dany was born to work at Hypercube. With a double Master’s in Econometrics and International Financial Management, and an impressive track record in sports fantasy games, he has the perfect background to excel as a data scientist. Patrick Vlaar: Patrick brings an impressive academic background, holding both a cum laude BSc and MSc in Physics. But he didn't stop there—he recently completed his PhD in Physics. The Municipality of Emmen recently presented the outcomes of our feasibility study for the realization of a Sports and Mobility Campus in the city. The study examined the construction of a multifunctional sports hall, new housing for top sports high school Carmel College, a new stadium for football club FC Emmen and space for commercial developments. The Meerdijk area has been identified as a suitable location for the project. The campus offers a unique opportunity for Emmen and the region to boost sports and vitality. However, for the plan to be financially viable, it is necessary to allow sufficient commercial activities in the area. Hypercube created a comprehensive business case for the project, considering the perspectives of all stakeholders involved, to ensure the formation of realistic plans. The next step is for the city council to decide in September upon the broadening of commercial functions to the area and the construction of the school and sports hall. The Olympic volleyball tournaments at Paris 2024 will be conducted under a new format, beginning with three round-robin pools of four teams each. The group winners, runners-up, and the two best-ranked third-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals, initiating the single-elimination bracket that leads to the semifinals and eventually to the medal matches, determining the Olympic podium. The men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held at the South Paris Arena in the French capital from July 27 to August 11 to produce the 16th Olympic volleyball champions in each gender. The Volleyball World Ranking for national teams, which Hypercube developed in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball - FIVB in 2019, determined five countries per gender that will participate in the prestigious Olympic Games. Exciting developments in Drenthe! Last year, Hypercube conducted research into the operation of an ice tunnel in the province of Drenthe for various cities by developing a business case for different variants. Among other things, we calculated the additional costs of a build-and-dismantle variant compared to a permanent variant and explored the possibilities of implementing solar panels. The skating rink in Assen now seems to be taking shape. We are closely monitoring the progress!

The race for the Olympic volleyball tickets is still very exciting: it all comes down to the VNL event, which is run from May 14 until June 30. The World Ranking score at the end of this event will decide which 5 countries (per gender) get to participate in the prestigious Olympic Games. The Volleyball World Ranking for nationals team, which we built together with the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball - FIVB in 2019, has proven again to lead to very exciting competitions, with very small ranking point differences between the top teams in the world. Now that the 2023/24 season is behind us, it's time to evaluate the progress made by football clubs in strengthening their teams. To assess this, we can analyze the difference between the European Club Index (ECI) at the end and the beginning of the season. The ECI is a ranking system that evaluates the sporting performance of European football clubs. We've compiled a list showcasing the top 10 clubs that have notably enhanced their ECI throughout the season on the left, and another list highlighting the top 10 clubs that have experienced a significant decline in their ECI on the right. The most remarkable risers include Bayer 04 Leverkusen, champions in Germany and UEFA Europa League finalist, and VFB Stuttgart, the runner-up in Germany. Conversely, the clubs that have had the most challenging year include Sheffield United, Ajax and Sevilla FC. Exciting days ahead for professional football coaches! The winners of the prestigious Rinus Michels Award will be presented on Wednesday, July 3rd, honouring the best coaches of the Eredivisie and the KKD of the previous season. Hypercube is proud to collaborate with Coaches Betaald Voetbal in determining the nominees each year by providing a comprehensive data overview. Our analysis considers the performance of the coaches relative to their available budget. Additionally, we award bonus points for remarkable achievements such as winning the championship, securing promotion, notable European accomplishments, KNVB cup success, Johan Cruijff Supercup triumphs, and qualification for European competitions. We also appreciate attractive football by considering the total number of goals scored. Following this process, the CBV committee unveils the five nominated coaches per division. Mario Captein, Director CBV:  "The data offers an objective assessment of each coach's performance. As a committee, we carefully evaluate the information from a training perspective to ensure the coach's distinctive impact is duly recognized."
