39 years ago today, Greenpeace’s original #RainbowWarrior ship was bombed by French government agents - killing one crew member, photographer Fernando Pereira. As long as we continue to remember Fernando, the old Rainbow Warrior’s spirit will always live on! 🌈🚢

Actor Simon Pegg SLAMS oil giant Shell! Joe Lycett suing Harry Styles is almost as ridiculous as Shell suing Greenpeace UK for millions because of a peaceful climate protest. They’re the ones destroying the planet - they should be giving damages to all of us! Buy a special T-shirt with a print of Joe Lycett’s Harry Styles portrait. All proceeds will help us continue to fight Shell: https://lnkd.in/dWG_smXm #SimonPegg #StopShell #Glastonbury #GreenpeaceField

In April, Michelle Jonker-Argueta and I were preparing for one of the most important moments of our careers: appearing before the honorable Inter-American Court of Human Rights to speak about #climatejustice. We spent 3 days in Barbados listening to very important interventions from diverse organizations, universities, colleagues, youth and other members of impacted communities. A month later, in May, the Court held another round of hearings in Brazil, in my opinion the most important of all this process, as they focused on the experiences and demands of the communities most impacted by the climate crisis. Listening to the testimonies of hundreds of people, who have been systematically ignored by their governments, harmed by the corporations operating in their territories, and who are now also enduring the worst impacts of a #climatecrisis created by the States and large fossil fuel and agribusiness corporations, was a bittersweet experience. On the one hand, the heart swells with emotion to see the most climate-impacted communities telling their stories and demanding justice, but on the other hand the heart aches to see young people, indigenous communities, rural communities, fisherfolk and many other people asserting their most fundamental rights, asserting their right to exist. What would we say to those suffering the worst impacts of the climate crisis and to future generations? Michelle and I tried to capture our answers, experiences and reflections in this blog https://lnkd.in/eDtPwwT6. What would you say to present and future generations?

Hurricane Beryl, the earliest Category 5 storm on record in the Atlantic Ocean, has devastated parts of the Caribbean, causing fatalities and widespread destruction. (First image credit: Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere) CNN: "The abnormally warm ocean waters that facilitated Beryl’s alarming strengthening are a clear indicator that this hurricane season will be far from normal in a world warming due to fossil fuel pollution." Switzerland, France and Italy have faced unprecedented rainfall, leading to severe flooding. Rivers have overflowed, flooding towns, leading to evacuations and mortalities. The Independent: "High temperatures caused by burning coal, oil and gas have been making disasters such as storms and wildfires worse, scientific assessments have found." The New York Times: “Climate change, driven primarily from the burning of fossil fuels, continues to cause increases in both high-severity fires that kill vegetation and dry out soils, and extreme rainfall events that deliver more precipitation in shorter amounts of time.” Oil corporations have known for 50 years that their operations cause global heating and extreme weather. So when extreme weather disasters driven by fossil fuels cause huge damage, Who Pays? Tell us in the comments 👇

"1.5 degrees is not a target. It is not a goal. It is a physical limit." United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called for us to directly confront the fossil fuel industry, who are relentless in obstructing efforts to curb the #ClimateCrisis They spend billions on distorting the truth, deceiving the public, and sowing doubt. It's time to make them pay for their destruction: https://lnkd.in/e3XNk6Md 📷 Images of CEOs are staged and doctored for illustrative purposes.
