The vision of the GO Green Office is to have sustainability incorporated and visible in everyone’s daily life at TU/e. The GO Green Office enables advancements which increase sustainability in daily activities and operations at TU/e. Simultaneously raise the knowledge about sustainability: what does TU/e do and why, and to increase self-knowledge about personal influence on sustainability (what can YOU do). Via these instruments, we want to make TU/e and its people act more sustainable and thus realize a positive effect on sustainability. Hence the two pillars of the GO will focus on awareness and sustainability advancements.

At the GO Green Office, a lot of projects are in full action, such as the upcoming Green Week, the Chair of the Future, or the SUMAP Program. Next to those achievements, we are proud to present to you the new Sustainable Event Manual 📗. This document is a reference work with tips and tricks for event organizers that range from little to big time investments and cover all sizes of impact. The main topics are: Energy, Transport, Food & Beverages, Materials & Waste, Water & Sanitation, Strategy and Community & Environment. The manual goes in hand with the new sustainable event policy which was implemented as of 2024 with the topics Food & Beverages and Materials & Waste. The GGO was heavily involved with the event policy as were big event organizers. In the future, the GGO hopes to stay involved in the writing extensions of the event policy while providing event organizers with tools and advice on sustainable event hosting. The set-up of the Event Manual is in 3 parts: ✔️ A short checklist ✔️ A more in-depth explanation per topic ✔️ Best practices and tips Additionally, there is an appendix of sources that the reader can use to go deepen their knowledge beyond the basics. The manual is far from final, not because it is too soon to publish, rather, it is a document that is meant to evolve and grow. Today, on April 1st, it is 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆! 🌍 If everyone lived like the average Dutch citizen, humanity would need 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 Earths to sustain itself. This means that we are depleting our annual natural budget 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 of the year. This does not mean that all hope is lost, of course. Let's use Dutch Overshoot Day as a call to action, inspiring positive change and a commitment to a more sustainable future for all!

Last week, some members of the GO Green Office traveled to Enschede for the Students Organizing for Sustainability International Summit! We participated in workshops, met up with other Green Offices and teams from around the world. At the inspiration showcase we got to talk about our initiatives such as the Sustainability Managers Program, the Chair of the Future, and of course the Green Week! 💚 It was a really great experience to learn from each others experiences. #SustainableTUesday - Sustainability at Eindhoven University of Technology going to European levels! 🇪🇺 Last Wednesday, Solar Team Eindhoven and GO Green Office visited the residence of the Dutch ambassador in Brussels! 🤝 There, the Stella Terra - the world's first off-road solar car - was presented, to involve and inspire policymakers from the European Parliament, as to how innovation can bring about change. The GGO was personally invited by Robert-Jan Smits to send two members as guest-speakers and to serve as Sustainability Ambassadors. In their speeches, Hanna Brita Kähari and Elano Franken aimed to inspire the audience to take action and make sure that, next to crucial technological innovations, we as a collective extend our efforts towards societal transformation. Here are some the thoughts they shared: "The technofix is not the solution to everything! People really need to understand why Sustainability is necessary now, and why we need to adapt our own behaviour." On top of that, Hanna & Elano shared exciting insights on guiding TU/e towards sustainability and inspiring student-led change. They introduced our Chair of the Future - a symbol urging decision-makers to prioritize Sustainability and give it a (literal) seat at all decision-making tables. Currently, GGO collaborates with our Sustainability Core Team and faculty deans to assess and enhance Sustainability practices across TU/e departments. Here are some reflections by Elano Franken on the event itself: "Through the event, GGO was really able to give a 'call to action', especially in the presence of the Executive Board. It was a turning point that we participated side by side at such an event with Solar Team. It was very nice that there was a balance between people who work hard on technical solutions, and those, who as Sustainability Ambassadors, delve deeper into the social aspects."
