🎦 Watch how Belgium keeps its citizens safe from scams 🎞 At the Global Anti-Scam Summit (GASS) Europe 2024, Miguel De Bruycker from the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB) discussed Belgium’s comprehensive strategies for protecting its citizens from online scams and cybersecurity threats. De Bruycker emphasized the importance of clear leadership in cybersecurity efforts, noting the current confusion around roles and responsibilities among various sectors. He highlighted Belgium’s initiatives to tackle this issue, focusing on active cyber protection without infringing on privacy or resorting to aggressive countermeasures like hacking back. 📢 New Regulation on Fund Transfers and Crypto-Assets as European Banking Authority (EBA) issues final travel rule guidance. Regulation (EU) 2023/1113, which was published on June 9, 2023, marks a significant milestone in the fight against terrorist financing and financial crime. This new regulation recasts the previous Regulation (EU) 2015/847 and extends its scope to include certain crypto-assets, enhancing our collective ability to trace and prevent illicit activities. 🔍 Key Highlights: Scope Extension: The regulation now includes the transfer of certain crypto-assets. Objective: To make it more difficult to abuse funds and crypto-asset transfers for terrorist financing and other financial crimes, while enabling authorities to trace such transfers effectively. Guidelines: The European Banking Authority (EBA) is mandated to issue guidelines for Payment Service Providers (PSPs), Intermediary PSPs (IPSPs), Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs), and Intermediary CASPs (ICASPs) on detecting and managing transfers with missing or incomplete information. The EBA will replace the 2017 Joint European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) Guidelines with new directives, maintaining a risk-based approach that allows PSPs, IPSPs, CASPs, and ICASPs to tailor their compliance efforts to the nature and size of their business and the ML/TF risk they face. Competent authorities will use these guidelines to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the procedures implemented by PSPs, IPSPs, CASPs, and ICASPs in complying with the new regulation. GASA members Amazon and Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) have launched CyberFlex, a new tool to protect young adults (18-25) from online scams. Despite their tech-savvy nature, young adults are highly vulnerable to scams like impersonation, investment, and cryptocurrency fraud. CyberFlex aims to raise awareness, shift attitudes, and provide easy steps to help young adults protect themselves. In response, CyberFlex offers free, mobile-friendly resources to help identify, avoid, and report scams.    "Digital natives are a growing target for cybercriminals," said Brian Cute, COO at GCA. "CyberFlex provides valuable resources to build a more trustworthy internet."   Scott Knapp, Amazon's Director of Worldwide Buyer Risk Prevention, added, "Education around scam avoidance is critical.
